Does anyone know of any really good guitar multisample packages in SFZ or SF2 format? I really wish I could find something like this. I would like to be able to use either SampleLord, SFZ, Dimension LE, or Alchemy Player as my instrument. I see that there are some good sample sets and packages around, but they all seem to require Kontakt. I don't want to buy Kontakt, so that really leaves me stuck. I'd like to have the samples without effects, so that I can run an amp sim with them. I'd like to have all of the different articulations and chords and hammer-on/off etc. I have searched and have not found anything. Pettinhouse used to advertise a LE package that would have been nice, but I emailed him about it and he said that he no longer offers it in SFZ format (only Kontakt). I've been searching threads here too. It just seems that it is either Kontakt or nothing.... Any help guys?

If you are really married to sfz or sf2 the best option seems to be this:
Choose a library that has the sound you want, doesn't rely much on scripting and comes with wav or aiff files and convert it to sf2 or sfz yourself or with something like ESC .

I have ESC, and I would love to do that, but I'm having trouble finding a decent library that I can use to convert. That's exactly why I'm asking forum users for advice (you know.....the power of the collective mind and all that?)

Well then, LD seems ok-ish, i got their Dreadnought wich isn't bad.
Also ISW Shreddage mighty be an option, i like it a lot.
Pettinhouse is ok too.

I would stay away from the OrangeTree Guitars regardless of how great they sound unless you decide to use them in Kontakt.

I thik "Erans" had some free sampled guitars and basses up in sfz format? No?

But i can't point you to any links since i got them long time ago.

He did even sample maj-min chords and stuff

I don't mind paying a reasonable amount of money (aprox $50) for something. I'm not looking "High End," I would just like something decent for substituting a guitar.

Hey! An SFZ file can easily be made out of any folder of .wav files. Use the program SFZd, open the audio files you want to make into an SFZ, and then there you have it! The program automatically maps the files to keys according to their filenames (guitar.C5, guitar_c5, etc), and you can easily have the program spread out the files to the correct keys based on the keys closest to the note named in the filename. Computer Music Mag is releasing all of their multisamples as SFZ format in the future, and they had a really nice multisample acoustic intrument pack for issue 160. "Nylon string, six string, twelve string acoustic" They had three velocity layers for each. Three very nice acoustic guitar multisamples. I think they're great, but I'm not sure they replace a real acoustic guitar by any means, and they probably aren't as good as what you linked to. Next issue computer music is dedicating what seems like 90% of the 2048 samples to piano multisamples of all types in SFZ format. I believe that SFZ format is the wave of the future! It's the best way to make your own Kontakt-type of instruments in other synths.

I have converted several guitars, but always you have the mess to tweak all the conversions, because errors and that. I dont know about any guitar in native sfz programming.
I have converted the Worra and the Flamestudio ones that originally are in giga format.
But, sincerely, the yellowtools acoustic guitar is so nice, that mainly i use it.

Search for the "Ultimate Guitar Kit" soundfont - very good dry electric, multi-layerd...and free. Version 2 has 4 different voices.

I'm not aware of a lot of choices for guitar samples in the SFZ format from better developers. There's no doubt that the developers of high end guitar libraries are almost exclusively producing libraries for KONTAKT due to the heavy reliance on complex velocity layers, round robin and scripting to attain a decent level of realism. Here are the choices I know of that, imo, are worth looking into.

(1) While Waves Factory makes KONTAKT libraries, they have customers who've posted on KVR that have converted some of the libraries to SFZ. The dev behind Waves Factory is very nice and posts on KVR. The libraries sell for only $9.95, however, he gives one electric guitar library away free. http://samples.wavesfactory.com/?p=302 Again, I'd suggest, if you like the demos, you contact the dev behind Waves Factory or start a thread asking if anyone has converted their guitar libraries to SFZ (I know, I bought their Tea Towel Drum Kit sample library -- which I think is very, very good and it's amazing that the dev only charges $9.95 USD -- it could easily sell for much more. Someone posted in the thread for that library that he was converting that library to SFZ and sharing it with others).

(2) Another poster in this thread mentioned the Flame Studio freebies (but didn't have a link, so here: http://www.live-styler.de/FS_Giga/FS_mirror.html). Unfortunately, the very generous dev who has made these guitar, bass and banjo libraries in Gigasample and SF2 format (SF2 is not available in the link) and gives them away free has more sample libraries, but unfortunately had a problem with his website's domain name registration and no longer has a website up.

(3) Another option is Sonivox, which has a number of VSTs and SF2 guitar sample libraries under $50 USD. These don't hold up very well to today's KONTAKT sample libraries (in fact, I bought some of these sample libraries from the company's previous incarnation more than ten years ago), however, it's all a matter of your own standards, so I thought I'd mention that.

@SWTrex:I have Ultimate Guitar Kit, and like it, but I'd also like to find something that does chords as well. Does Ultimate Guitar Kit have a "For Pay" big brother?

@eDrummist: I'll definately look into Waves Factory. Thanks for pointing me in that direction!

I saw that Sonivox had some stuff, but I wasn't sure it was good enough quality for what I'm wanting....I may give it a second look though, since you mentioned it.

@ everyone: It's too bad that someone doesn't make one or port one for sale. This is easily a gap where someone with some business skills could quickly put out a product--especially if they already have a product available in a format that extranslator can convert. (5 minutes of converting, and possibly a little fine tuning, and done--A new product!)
