Can I make a song out of this pattern?

Chords, scales, harmony, melody, etc.

This is from a gated synth patch I made. I played the notes live as I recorded it, as I can't find a way to sequence and get it into a solid 4/4 pattern.

It kinda sounds like it's an off-beat melody. I know the synth sounds a little shit and the melody isn't exactly impressive, but I like it and I can't seem to find a way to sequence it.

I like it. 8)

Why not just loop the parts you want, and "sequence" it as "audio" in a multitrack DAW ?
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

Thanks ;)

I could do that, but I think it'd be easier if I could find a way to sequence it in a normal 4/4 pattern. I can't seem to find a tempo that would work for that though. The quarter notes seem to go by fast, so maybe I should try a tempo in the dnb range? ....I dunno

you don't have a beatmapper?

This should be a very easy pattern to sequence. Could you be more specific about what is giving you problems? If it were me, I would treat each beat as an eighth note followed by 2 sixteenth notes and make a slow hip-hop sort of thing out of it.

Yes. You have my permission. :D

as you can't find any 4/4 pattern in what is an obvious 4/4 pattern, I'd say the chances of you making a song out of it aren't the best.

Not sure why you're having trouble with that?

You could put your down beat on the first or third note of each group of three notes and that would be standard trance. (Put the beat on the gap or the second note for a 'slightly' different experience)

It's very slow for trance though - 90bpm or similar, so if you're trying the normal tempo range of 120-150 to match it, I'm not surprised you having difficulties!

DnB at 180 would be possible, if a little frantic.
