Here's a new Zen update, with a new feature - automatic scan of available VST plugins. Zen is now able to find your supported plugins in your VST folder.

In addition, this release fixes crashes when entering text data in Reaper, so make sure you install the update !

Cool thanks

I like the new feature. I'm having two issues though:
1) Zen crashes during scanning...I assume a certain plugin is causing it to choke up. Is there a crash log or anything I can check?
2) For certain reasons, I have my vst plugins distributed between two separate folders. Is there anyway Zen could be made to scan more than one folder?

Post

On second thoughts scanning seems counter productive when all I want is specific synths and scans can often crash hosts on scan plus take forever - can it be turned off and just use the old method? - once I've loaded a dll it remembers it anyway so I don't need scanning of things I don't need to load - thanks

This would be very useful, especially if the folders could be configured on a per-host basis.

The old method is still there, you don't have to scan. Just select the synths you want in the list, and specify the dll as required.

The log file is in C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Application Data\Big Tick\zen, there should be information about scanned plug-ins in zen.log.

The scan takes place in the background, so once you've hit "scan" you can close the config window and use Zen immediately.

In order to specify several folders, just edit zen.properties and use a semicolon as a separator, like this (note the forward slashes):
zen.vstPluginsFolder: C:/Program Files/VstPlugins; C:/Vst

Thanks for the scan function!

I noticed 2 crashes with plugins:

1) reacontrolmidi-standalone.dll which is part of the Cockos plugins: http://reaper.fm/reaplugs/index.php

2) VL1: http://www.polyvalens.com/vl1/download.html

BTW: The confirmation dialog to overwrite the database in the installation program is a little bit dangerous, I already clicked overwrite once. Maybe it would be better to have a (unchecked) checkbox.

ok I have fixed these 2 crashes and will upload VL1 programs soon, stay tuned for 1.6.5 :)

Wow, great! Thanks!

Thank you very much for the update, sir! :D

However tbbh I think the scanning is pretty much useless as it is now, because Zen doesn't appear to create a scanlog, so when it crashes during scanning, it always restarts the whole scan-process instead of ignoring the dodgy plugin and continuing from where it crashed.

hold on, scanlog is coming.
