Hi.
This summer my old faithful Windows XP machine finally bit the dust, so I built a new Windows 7 computer.
Asus motherboard, 16gb of RAM
4tb of storage
And an AMD Hexacore processor.
Right now, I'm having a hard time figuring out where to install LinPlug RMV
I've managed to get Albino installed OK, as well as a couple of the other LinPlug products I own (I LOVE LinPlug synths, especially Organ 3, which I first bought years ago as daOrgan).
Anyway. Which folder should RMV go into? The installer asks if I want the 64bit version, so obviously I choose the 64bit, and then I'm installing inside:
Computer - Local Disk (c) - program files - steinberg - cubase 6 - vst plugins
So, I'm using Cubase 6 as my host, and I've installed it as the 64bit version, and I have other VSTi working, some from Arturia, some from Native Instruments, and the LinPlug plug-ins are all I have left before I start in on trying to install my effects. Sigh. I'm sure once I get it running I"ll be happy with my new rig, but right now, it's just a pain in the neck.
It's amazing how much you can accumulate in a few years that you then begin to take for granted.
From what I've been able to learn Window 7 wants you to install 64bit programs into the the plain 'Programs' folder, and everything else into the Programs(x86) folder. Is that right?
And if so, where should the sound banks for Linplug RMV sound sets go? What about the .mid files? Over the years I've amassed quite a few of those as well.
I've gotten Organ 3 to work inside the above folder structure, but not RMV.
Am I doing this right?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Scott

Hi Scott,
you can forget about most of the potential hassle of Win 7 (be it 32 or 64 bit); you should install any LinPlug instrument (including RMV) in the folder scanned by Cubase; so where Organ 3 works, RMV works as well.
Make sure to use 64 bit of all LinPlug instruments, when you run 64 bit Cubase.
The RMV libs can go anywhere you want, including an external drive. Just to avoid potential hassle, install them where you want them and _not_ move around them later on.
Once you installed the RMV libs (again, any location possible, RMV get the location info from the installer, so it will find them); open that location and add your personal MIDI files (if you want to browse them in RMV) right into RMV's MIDI folder (name "RM V MIDI").
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up, Peter.
I finally managed to get RMV to show up in the plug-ins list, but then a bunch of errors relating to its library popped up as it loaded. Two each, I think for the samples and the loops.
I would be more specific, but I gave up on Cubase 64 for now, and went back to Cubase 32.
As I understand it, the 32 bit version will use nearly all of its 4gb, leaving the rest of the RAM open for say, Reason and or Ableton Live, my other two main programs.
Thanks, and if you could point me towards a good link for the pros and cons of 32 bit host (not operating system, I'm definitely not going back to that world) versus 64 bit host, I'd appreciate.
As it is, now I'm off to reinstall my other LinPlug products because I had first installed them 64 bit versions.
Oh, and I hope you don't think it was RMV that caused me to take such a drastic measure as go back to 32 bit, no that was Waves, which I could never get to show up in Cubase 6 64bit.

Well, its mainly the memory barrier you mentioned, some dev's found their 64 bit plugins running a bit faster on 64 bit, however, i guess it much depends on the plugin architecture.
