Simple question, for those of us who "psuedo master" our own music, what dB are you limiting at? Do you leave a margin or just go straight for 0.0dBfs?

Thanks!

(I realize this could be in Production Techniques, but since it deals specifically with how we are setting up the limiter, and this forum gets a lot more traffic I figured I would post it here.)

Always -0.3dB.
I have no reason for that though, it's just a habit.

I set my meters for K-12 and shoot for anywhere from 0 to +4 there (depending on how loud I, or someone else may want the master). If you have no clue what K-12 is, look up metering with the K-system.

-0.3db is what my labels always asked for.

Ah...I see that you're talking straight peaks not overall volume. I'll use a ceiling of -0.2db. This is to ensure that clipping doesn't occur during the MP3 conversion process, which usually adds a few tenths of a db.

usually -0.3 but I might reduce that further if I want to put it on to SoundCloud as an mp3.

Depends on the project. For some, a clean -1dBfs works best. For others, a straight 0dBfs with no interpolation works best.

Always -0.3 dB.
Kim, at which situations wouuld you want to peak at 0 dB?

Post

I always thought -1 for cd, 0 for mp3, assuming you export it directly into these formats. Whenever I import commercial media this is usually where it peaks. Any less and I notice a difference between commercial mixes and mine.

usually -0.2 for cd, -0.8 for mp3,
