Hello was wondering if the pre chorus that leads to a chorus would it make more sense to have the pre chorus be in a different timbre/synth than the main chorus? to sound more melodic let me know.

for example you have a timbre for the hook, a timbre for the verse/motif/arp
then a timbre for pre chours (then again you could use the same timbre that you used for the hook) then a timbre for the main chorus-main riff.

I know most songs use 4 timbres - the same timbre for hook and verse a timbre for pre chorus and a timbre for main chorus and a timbre for the middle 8 section.

Do not think too much about it. Just do whatever sounds good to your ears.

Does it really matter?

Basically, it's up to what's going on throughout of your song.
Wonder whether my advice worth a penny? Check my music at Soundcloud and decide for yourself.

I think different chord sequence can have more dramatic effect on pre chorus than timbre. If chords are not working, timbre change cannot help much.

Trying every illiteration will lead down a path of accomplishing nothing as you may actually pass by what you wanted to do due to loss of interest/approach.

That's why theory exists to save one from pointless illiterations. Climbs actually build better when your building them up as you go along rather then dropping the big sound on top. You slso need a gap in the music for dramatic pause.
