question on app development

A spectacular donation of Ipod touches (from a TV show I'm not sure I can mention) has gotten us one step closer to the dream of getting rid of our terrible, ancient windows pda based data collection system at work. However, we are in desperate need of some pro-bono help creating a data collection App we can use to move our data into our existing mysql database. We're non-profit and have little cash. Does anyone know about how to make an app? or about how much it would cost to get someone to make one for us (or how to find these people)? If anyone does it pro-bono, their work is tax deductible as we are a registered 501c3 non-profit (it would be considered a donation).

we are a street based HIV prevention program in Los Angeles that provides syringe exchange, general health education, outreach, medical care, case management and peer education. I know this isn't a music related thread, so if the mods feel the need to axe this one, I totally understand and apologize. Just thought this might be a good place to get some feedback (we're all geeks here right?).
