In practical film scoring, do French horns always play solo? (same with rest of the brass)

Also, how many parts for each instrument do the composers write? Is it the same as with traditional symphonic works, or is the instrumentation significantly different?

By unique one example on the top of my head is George Telemann, he wrote pieces for the most unusual and most often never previously conceived combinations of instruments.

I'm trying to figure out if I need to invest in all types of instruments.

Many scores use really large forces, including FH sections. A lot of that scoring follows eg., Wagner, R Strauss et al. 8 horns is not unheard-of.

I would say as far as virtual instruments to invest in sections certainly. This Albion Spitfire for instance sure sounds like the sections are put together in a way to obviate a lot of part-writing and scoring work.

'How many' tends to follow the budget I think.
