1. I read on the net that it is not possible to update ios to the latest 4 developer version from a windows machine. Is it true?

With a jailbroken phone you can:
-Unlock to use with any carrier
-Customise your lockscreen (see Intelliscreen in Cydia! MISS this in iOS5!!)
-Unrestrict 3G: download more than 10mb from AppStore, fool any application to be on WIFI when you really use 3G.
-Use your iPhone as a wireless modem (I think iOS5 can now do this too)
-Minor useful hacks: see a thumbnail for each contact in the contacts list
-Custom gestures to activate applications (See Activator in Cydia)
-Unlock to use with any carrier

okay, so in terms of non phoning ipad and mainly music app controller use, ios5 is no critical update?
