Hi there,
I'm pretty tech savvy but I'm new to trying to get instruments to talk to software and would be extremely grateful for any help! I have the following setup:
Yamaha CP33 keyboard connected to my PC running Vista using USB with the USB to MIDI driver installed, along with Cantabile Lite and a Creative X-Fi Platinum soundcard with breakout box. I've watched the very helpful videos on the Cantabile site but for some reason I just can't get things to work right.
When I press keys on my keyboard it shows up on the on-screen virtual keyboard on Cantabile but no signal registers on the input meter. CP33 shows up in the MIDI devices section and is ticked, as is the Input Connect box.
I've tried to set up my inputs and outputs as best I can but I'm pretty stumped. Can anyone walk me through what I need to check to try fix things. I can reply with specific settings and selection options/screenshots if needed.
Thank you to anyone who can help and sorry if I've posted in the wrong section!

Hi,
I am no expert. I am just here to get some of my own questions answered but maybe I can help.Do you have any plugins loaded? What are trying to hear? Are you trying to run some VSts or are you trying to process the sound of your CP33 with additional effects?
The input is for audio input I would assume from your CP33.The output COULD be that input audio signal after processing. I usually have some virtual instrument VST going to the output and that is what I want to hear.
So.... I think we need a little more info about what you are trying to hear.

PS I think the easiest route is to load some free VST that you want to play with and learn from that point.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. All I would like is to be able to play my CP33 and have the sound changed based on whatever plugin I have loaded so I can make my keyboard sound however I like.
I can make it so that if I use the mouse to play the virtual keyboard, I hear the sounds I want but when I play my CP33 the virtual keyboard lights up but no sound is heard.
Hope that helps.

Welcome to the club!
Keyboards with it's own sound generation usually have a "local off" feature. This controls the internal link between keys and sound generator. One has to switch that off when just midi data is needed.
I guess that's what you were looking for and have found now.
Have fun, a nice x-mas,...
...and keep on jamming
