I'm a keyboard player but just bought an electric guitar but am frankly bewildered by the range of amp + effects apps in the app store.

I don't mind paying decent money but I'd like to get a good one for my iPad. Any recommendations?

It is still on sale at £6.99 (but not for much longer) and with no in-app purchases required, Jamup Pro is IMO the best value for money and best sounding amp sim and affects unit for iOS at the moment (big update coming in January). Free version also available. I am using it with iRig hardware (around £22 on Amazon) as the Jamup Plug is not available in the UK at the moment.

Okay. I bought it:)

I can't work out how to change peddles or amp models. Edit- Sussed it now. All working. Sounds great. Thanks.

Definitely check out AmpliTube for iPad and iRig. Try it out for yourself as we do have a free version available.

AmpKit+ is another really good one to try. It's sounds great, and works with either the Ampkit Link, iRig, or even better the Apogee JAM or Line6 MobileIn. The latter two sound far better than the units that plug into the headphone jack, and sadly Amplitube for iOS doesn't support them yet.

Hi Derek -- I was checking out JamUp yesterday but am having a real problem with it. Please check this thread (about halfway down) for details: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=338272

Something's definitely going wrong under the Jam tab. Audio clip here: http://soundcloud.com/tagpass/jamupissue/s-JyWV9

Hmm, JamUp says there are 30+ effects, but I only count 20.
Where are the rest?

Hi JavaJ

Sorry about the confusion. We will open up the matched cab types and mic types in the near future free update, please stay tuned!

FYI, JamUp 1.3 is coming soon, with 21 new modules available via in-app purchase: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 626&type=3

I like questions...now if I can help you solve the issue, that will probably make both of our days! First, what device are you using with the app? I noticed that if I don't have my interface (irig, jamplug, etc) connected to my ipod touch 4th gen, the mic automatically starts picking up room sound and some white noise. However, with my interface connected, the device is searching for an input signal from a guitar or keyboard that is connected and you should not have this problem anymore. Make sure you connect your interface before entering the app and that no other applications are running in the background. It is also a good idea to run in airplane mode. Also, you cannot record any sound in the jam player...it only allows you to play over the top of your loaded songs. audio copy/paste function should be implemented in the phrase sampler in the next update. Rarely, I have had a couple of issues with the app, such as white noise and or no sound from the input...even though it is registering on the meter. Close out of the app and restart and it should reset itself just fine. Also remember that low latency mode will drain more cpu. Let me know if this helps...if not...hit me up again and we'll go another round.
Rock On!

For me it's about sound discovery. I don't know what combination of effects will sound good and rely on presets to get me going.
