I know about FL Studio, Rebirth and iElectribe. Any more to check out?

Not all of these are sequencers. But I think it's a pretty definitive list of what is out there currently;

I really like nanostudio. http://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/index.php
Very fast to lay down quick song sketches, and the synth is very playable.
Favorite thing about it is how easy it is to transfer individual track wavs and midi files to your daw.
I use it with first gen iPad and it runs great.

I have these:
- Garageband: Not bad at all. Unfortunately, it does not output MIDI, but many of the included sounds are ok.
- Phaedra: Very cool, although it has some small annoyances. I use it with my Nord Lead - four tracks for four parts.
- SynthStation: It's quite simple and I still have to get around the workflow, but I like the sounds it makes.
- Nanoloop: One of the first apps I bought when I got my ipod touch. I love it. It's limited in its own way, but it's quick and fun to use.
- Korg iMS-20: Great sounding synth/drums. Using virtual knobs in the ipad is (IMO) even less fun than tweaking softsynths with a mouse - sliders work much better in this context - and the iMS-20 has tons of knobs, but it's worth the purchase. The only downside for me is the lack of MIDI clock sync.
- Korg iElectribe: I love my real ER-1 so I had to have this one. Just as with iMS, I wish it could send and receive MIDI clock.
- Multitrack DAW: Not exactly a sequencer, but you can sequence audio clips with it. In fact, I like that I can export patterns from Nanoloop, iMS-20, iElectribe, and SynthStation, arrange them in Multitrack, and then record something else over them. I could also do this in Garageband, but I prefer Multitrack's simplicity.
Finally, I've been wanting to try Meteor, which does MIDI and audio sequencing and syncs to MIDI clock, but I have so many apps right now and I want to learn them well first.

I bought Garageband today, and it really starts to grow on me. Nanoloop sounds fun. Might be worth checking that out.

Meteor is by far the best overall but you have to pay for the extras.

Does any of the sequencers, using virtual midi with other apps (i.e. Sunrizer), render the other apps sound when exporting song to wav/mp3?

I will also say Nanostudio. Very nice sequencer. A very nice feature is the ability to export your pattern with full effects fade. What I mean is, let's say you have a delay or reverb. Rather than exporting a four bar pattern and then having it immediately stop, the export has an option that will continue through the normal fade length.

Unfortunately not. We still need a "record what you hear" app so a Virtual Midi session can be recorded as a whole. Until then you will have to record the instruments individually by virtue of their internal recorders and paste it all to an app like Beatmaker 2, NanoStudio, Meteor or MultiTrack DAW.Insaniac wrote:Does any of the sequencers, using virtual midi with other apps (i.e. Sunrizer), render the other apps sound when exporting song to wav/mp3?

It reminds me of Jeskola Buzz with its modular view. Very nice

You can only step sequence notes, old tracker style. You can however use midi in to play notes in realtime (no recording) and use midi in to step sequence. You can also export both midi and audio.

Unless you have an Audio/MIDI interface (or the ioDock), then you can easily record audio from one app straight into another app such as BeatMaker 2. No need for AudioCopy/Paste in this scenarioIncarnateX wrote:Unfortunately not. We still need a "record what you hear" app so a Virtual Midi session can be recorded as a whole. I keep meaning to make a video to show this. I'll post it here if I do.

In the mean time, just explain how to do it.iDesignSound wrote:Unless you have an Audio/MIDI interface (or the ioDock), then you can easily record audio from one app straight into another app such as BeatMaker 2.
