So, err, what do you want help with? From the short clip I'd say the drums are what needs work to begin with if you want input on the mix, they sound a bit unfocused and 'verbed while still being too much in your face. Perhaps try bringing them more into the center and avoid too much panning, while easing down on the reverb (or at least shortening the reverb tails)?

Also, the bass really disappears, it sounds like the guitars are fairly bass heavy, perhaps highpass filter them a bit and do some EQ cutting all around to make som room for the bass (and perhaps a semi sharp peak somewhere in the mids to bring the bass definition up a bit?)?

Just throwing some ideas out there :)

Maybe take the drum and guitar level down a little. I agree that the bass is a little hidden in there. Some eq on the guitar low end might help.

Bring the drums down a bit yeah, forgot that. They're a bit too much upfront now it feels like.

Thanks so much for the advice. I changed the kit and did as suggested. Is this any better?

I would say that the bass/guitar balance is now better. Is there any way to get the crash cymbals back?

That's definitely better, especially on the part where the guitar chords come in. The drums, bass and guitar levels feel about right.

Much better!

I think the drums could be even better though. I think the kick sound is great, but I'd love to see the snare getting some more "beef" (not overdone though, it's nice and snappy, just a little more "body" needed). I think they're sliiightly too much forward still, but it's not by much. Perhaps adding back some of the reverb, but bringing the overall levels down a notch. We're probably getting to the "personal preferences" territory here though.

Thank you both. Programentalist, I tried doing as you said. Is this any better?

It sounds like the drums are even louder actually :P

It very close, but I'd still want the drums more recessed, ie bring the volume down on the overall a bit more (2-3db?).

In any case it sounds tons better than the first one, and it's as much about your taste and the sound you're going after now I'd say.

Btw, is there supposed to be vocals on this as well? Because that'll give you no end of trouble if you've "finished" the instrumental mix without taking that into consideration :)

Okay, thanks. I've brought the drums down on this one:

No vox intended so far.

Awesome man, spot on!

Now will you let us hear the whole track any time soon? It sounds pretty cool from the clip...

Post

I agree. The mix sounds better this time. Can I hear some sort of reverb or even a delay on the kick. Something sounds a little strange down there.

Okay, I took some room off the kick:
