I like this idea. Especially if winning a prize or receiving a donation is contingent upon being active in/contributing to the KVR community.
I'd be happy to donate money and time to help make it happen but like you, TTOZ, I don't have much in the way of organizational skills.
pdxindy makes a good point about freeware but it seems like there is little awareness about freeware outside of our corner of the internet. Perhaps the first step should be to try to get a larger audience aware of all the awesome freeware tools available to us. It's only a thought but maybe we artists who are lucky enough to have websites can donate ad-space on our sites to devs who can't afford ads on KVR and such.
Good thinking TTOZ, I'm interested to see where this discussion goes.

Love the idea - not sure how to implement it practically (in terms of selecting recipients, etc), but you've already got some ideas to start.
Was thinking about this the other day - for some the issue is the relative cost of consumer goods in their countries. When someone is agonizing over whether to buy one synth or another, I'm often tempted to reply "get both!", then try to catch myself and remember not everyone is so fortunate.
A lot of companies have student discounts, etc., also, but again, not sure how practical that is.
Count me in as a donor if someone else can figure out the logistics

HA - seems the first few of us to respond lack the organizational skills but are willing participentsjustin3am wrote:I'd be happy to donate money and time to help make it happen but like you, TTOZ, I don't have much in the way of organizational skills.
Agreed - This IS a music/tech site, so that's naturally where we'd focus our efforts. There are tons of charities dedicated not just to sustaining people's lives but enriching them.ttoz wrote:Yes and i am treating it like hunger or lack of healthcare. Why not do a totally *different* charity for once? This is a unique idea AFAIK. Same as any charity we can't help everyone everywhere. it's just another idea to help people, whether some think it is worthwhile or not.

...nice idea, but it will never fly... not to be a negative nelly
People don't even donate to the devs they get so much from FOR FREE, I can't see donations going towards someone's hobby...

I don't get it.
I mean what nitwit is going to be the proud winner for being a warez user?
You mean I had to get Live Lite with my M-Audio keys, and got Logic8 "used" for a hundred bucks, but Thieving Fanny comes along and gets a 500 dollar daw handed to her/him for stealing?
Maybe we can also have a thank you awareness program at kvr, for poor sound designers, who have contributed many presets to the community for free, and didn't even get a thanks, from the majority of those who used them happily.
I'd go for that one.
Freeware is good. I used it for over a year before buying anything.
They can do the same.
Although no argument. I appreciate your care for a cause effort.
You must have seen the holes in the logic of it though.
