Gorgor's Osc 36 Kairatune votes

5 points
Bzur - pointilistic
You are a beast. *****.

4 points

Irion - A Child's Hope
Good stuff from da Ronin again. Great saturated atmospheres, strong melody, thoughtful arrangement. Goosebumpy...

3 points

Manvanmars - kaira electra
Slammin' intro. Love the trippy drum sounds. Nice filter-play. But why are you going to modulate just as you start to fade out? You tease you!

2 points

Yeager - So Do I
My fave Yeager track ever. I think the difficulty in working with Kairatune made your piece come out less "overworked" to me than usual, which made it perfect to my ears. Short list worthy, tho you lose me a bit with the ending. Id have liked to hear the main theme reprised instead, but thats just me...

1 point
RuediRena - Kairibean Thoughts
Interesting. I like it, not hearing anything Caribbean here, more of a Slurm factory, but i'm enjoying it anyway... could have been better developed, but very cool, esp. when the melody comes in. Just felt like i had to wait a bit long for it (totally worth it by the way). My fav from you guys in a long time!

Honorables

DzAH - drops of soft pick
Soft subdued, cool. A bit repetitive tho.

Distorque - Neon Street
There is a lot to like here, very creative use of sounds. Lots of cool textures, totally sucked me in. Goes back to the main theme just often enough to tie things together... love the breakdown and ending! short list!

Zi90 - Cerebral Pares
Creepy. I like the sounds...

Markheath - Cap'n Trillian
Cool, gets a bit cluttered before the break... very solid offering.

Kraftraum - Rotation
I've liked this from the beginning, very seductive little grooves there... cool percs

Doc John - Kaira's Nightmare
If Duran Duran did the Miami Vice soundtrack it might sound a bit like this...

InterSlot Call - I hate this synth
I totally sympathize.

Cjohs - March of the Estranged
Interesting, I like the nice ghostly lead, and all the sub-love.

Hello to all,
hard, very hard to give away 5 Points .... i must have 20 Points for you all ;)
In in the last month i get a great gift: enough time to listen and comment the tracks in the challenge :)

So here it goes, the points:

5 Points: IrionDaRonin - AChildsHope
Nice ambient hook, very good delaying, for me: perfectly mix, cool sounds, ideal!

4 Points: Markheath - TheAdventuresOfCaptainTrillian
Great Track with interesting melo-line, nice FX, very good mix

3 Points: DocJon - KairasNightmare
As i say: crying track i like. Good Groove, crying Synth, cool Jamming: John Carpenter will be with you 8)

2 Points: Photonic - KairaIsCalling
Nice Track and melo; cool Percs, great leadline

1 Point: manvanmars - kaira_electra
Cool groove and hookline, good breaks, nice mix, cool percs

And from listining to the other tracks: please look at my comments in soundcloud.

Special thx goes to Gorgorgathgorgorgor for your comment about Rotation 2 ;)

Good luck to you all

5 - Yeager - So Do I
Great track. Every single bit of it is compelling and interesting. Whenever I get used to a section it completely changes, but the transitions aren't at all jarring and the song still coheres. Because of that, it stays interesting and stands up to repeated listening. Good job.

4 - markheath - The Adventures of Captain Trillian
Nice theme and arrangement. I really liked the 5-6-#6-6 bit in the middle.

3 - Doc Jon - Kaira's Nightmare

Lots of stuff going on here, but it all really works together. Lots of fun too. The screams are a bit much in places, but there's more than enough nice melodic work to keep it going.

2 - bzur - pointillistic
The melody didn't grab me much, but the execution of this track was absolutely flawless.

1 - Photonic - Kaira is calling
Another fun one. Good, clean theme and backing, just a bit too tame IMHO.

Honourable mentions:

Gorgorgathgorgorgor - Krummavísur
Great vibe and feel. I'd love to hear you doing some original Icelandic/Scandinavian-style stuff.

manvanmars - kaira electra
Great groove, but it would be nice to hear you mix it up a bit. There's just not a whole lot going on in this track.

So, this is my first time in this contest, but I'm definitely going to be entering again. I don't have much experience with synth work, and I'll consider myself lucky if I pick up any points at all, but it was a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who commented on my track and thanks to V'ger & co. for running this.

Getting my votes in early this month as work pressures look likely to prevent me taking part in this month's OSC

5 points - IrionDaRonin - A Child's Hope

Just the most sublime and relaxing piece this month, great choice of sounds and all put together with the usual IDR skill. Melody was slightly unusual and particularly strong for that reason, those beautiful washy pads and unique percussion sounds really clinched it for me

4 points - bzur - pointillistic

Classic bzur sounds and great mix/production. I loved the way it built over the first half, introducing some really unusual textures and patches. My favourite selection of sounds this month here, you've managed to program a very impressive variety of different timbres from Kairatune

3 points - Gorgorgathgorgorgor - Måselvhallingen
Well, the best track ever from Gorgor I reckon, and with a title even harder to spell than his own name! My favourite Norwegian/Eastern/Indian mash-up of the year (so far)! That infectious melody and blend of ethnic flavours made it irresistable. Special note must go to the tabla style percussion which was so good it sounded real rather than synthesized. Well done!

2 points - Yeager - So Do I
Really catchy tune. Some very strong sounds and melody in each section, particularly the bass at about 3.20. Nice percussion throughout and overall great production as usual. Several of the tracks this month did seem a bit over-compressed and that is perhaps the only criticism I might make here too, but didn't stop it getting into my top 5

1 points - Kraftraum - Rotation
Nice chilled piece, loved the bass sound. Good melody. Could perhaps have developed a little more as the piece progressed with a bit more variation. I thought the mix and production was excellent

Those that were also on the shortlist:

DzAH - Drops of Soft Pick: Really liked this one, great atmospheric intro, loved the soft patches used, relaxing and chilled. Would have scored points if it had more variation throughout the piece and introduced some other textures in the second half

markheath - The Adventures of Captain Trillian: Really strong tune and good choice of sounds, particularly liked the middle chiptune section

manvanmars - kaira electra: That great percussion really stood out, a strong theme to the tune, but failed to develop as the track progressed which was a shame and just kept it out of the points

Well done to everyone and Good Luck!

Wow, thanks Doc, that means a lot coming from the master!

Ya know, it's funny, I did the covers mostly because Kairatune was driving me crazy and I could not concentrate on composition. Something more original is coming with Helix...

Ok i have decided how to vote, after having all tracks as a playlist on repeat for the last few days:

5 points for So Do I by Yeager, I really like the groove of this song, the melody just does it for me with this one.

4 points for A childs hope by Irion Da Ronin, i really like the atmosphere and all the little details, its just a very nice song. Also the best drum sounds of these tracks in my opinion.

3 points for Kaira's Nightmare by Doc John, it has some really nice tearing synth sounds, and the electric guitar-like sound is just great work imo.

2 points for Maselvhallingen by Gorgorgathgorgorgor, really nice unusual sounds and melodies in this one, i can honestly say i have never heard anything like this before... :)

The last place i found to be the hardest to choose, because there just were a lot of good tracks. Eventually i had to pick 1, and so i went with Mark Heath - The Adventures of Captain Trillian for 1 point, because i really liked the melody to it, takes me back to my youth when i played video games for hours, and because i found myself humming along to it every time it came by...

But it was really close, i also considered these tracks:

Alphuris - Wind Up, nice drive to it and really cool goa bass
bzur - pointillistic, nice calm song just drifting about
DzAH - Drops of Soft Pick, nice melodies and sounds
Kraftraum - Rotation 2, nice groove and sounds
OrbitalResonance - March of the Estranged, cool atmosphere and the theremin sound
Photonic - kaira is calling, nice melodies and videogame feel
RuediRena - Kairibean Thoughts, nice laid back tune with good percussion sounds

I thought these were all very nice tracks which deserved some points, but i had to make a choice so...

btw thanks everyone for the nice words, didn't expect to get any points at all for this piece of sh.... Was working on adding some melodies, variations and a new section(where it fades out) but then cpu went over the limit, there was some feedback coming from one of the sounds i couldn't locate and just was really tired of hearing the song after working on it a few days, so i just declared it "finished"

Hi!

Here are my votes:

manvanmars - kaira electra - 5 points
I like the beat and the clean sound.

alphuris - wind-up - 4 points
I like the ping and specially I love the break on the middle of the tune...

markheat - The Adventures of Captain Trillian - 3 points
A catchy melody for a well done tune.

Yeager - So Do I - 2 points
nice intro, and that bass alike sounds good...

Doc Jon - Kaira's Nightmare - 1 point
I'll never forget Kaira screaming like this... !!

That's all, it was not easy, until last moment I had doubts. It was a pain to keep 4 or 5 tracks out of points, and even between that 5 selected ones, from first to last the difference is really small. Well done everybody!

Hi all,

Thank you very much for the points!
Funny that my music has a videogame-feeling. Never played much of them and so I had no idea how they sound!

Anyway, as soon as you like it!

cheers,
