In my house using wifi is possible everywhere - at least with my Lenovo Thinkpad. I even get a reasonable signal in my garden. The Ipad2 however often lets me down connectivity wise. it loses connectivity or the signal is so weak that I need to hold it up and wave it as if I am trying to catch flies. Which might be a good use after all!

In a nutshell: the wifi connectivity (of my Ipad) sucks. Is there a way how to pimp this?

(Ipad3 or moving my wifi router is not an option)

I'm also curious about this one. I haven't got any issues yet though, but I better be prepared.

You could buy a directional wifi boost thingy, some people have used beer cans (beer not included) and even an old sat dish to boost wifi.

The internet is a weird and wonderful place.

I have the same problem. We have an L-shaped house and the Router was at one end and my room on the other. When we upgraded our cable to digital, we had them punch a hole in the side of the house so we could centrally locate the router at the bend of the L. Now I get signal to the bedroom, but it sometimes hits down to 1 level of signal and I'm doing that waving thing you mentioned. :-) Streaming video was choppy, at best. My laptop had NO problems.

One thing I did that seemed to somewhat improve things is I changed the wi-fi channel. I thought maybe a neighbor and I are on the same channel or there is some interference. After doing that, streaming has greatly improved. Sometimes Netflix looks pretty clear, though often it is still a bit pixelated. But I do get streaming now and it is actually watchable.

I should also note, I have a 'g' router. I do not use 'n' yet.

Try changing which channel you are on. Be sure the router is not placed near other electronics. There are repeaters you can place in the house, but those can be pricey. Another option someone recommended to me was to use those devices that plug into your wall AC outlet to carry the signal.

Thanks. Interesting that with your laptop you have no issues too. To me this is a sign that the antenna of the Ipad2 is weak. I will look into the channel thing.

I somewhat like the idea of beer cans boosting my wifi signal .... ;-)

Hahah! So I am not the only one doing this waving thing with my Ipad! Here is an idea for a competetive ad for an Android tablet:
Show a bunch of Ipad users acting like butterfly-catching loonies just to get a wifi signal ! Catchphrase: connectivity matters!

Just one of the advantages of a cheap nasty plastic case.

So you say that a plastic case can increase the wifi receptivity? Which cases do you recommend?

I think he's saying that the alu case of the iPad is the cause of the bad wi-fireception.....

it's a well know issue by Apple, it's the reason why the wi-fi receiver is actually behind the Plastic apple logo.

I had connectivity problems with my iPod Touch 4G till I reserved the IP address of my device in the router so there isn't any negotiation for it, and then changed the following values:

Beacon Period for the 2.4 Band to 75.
RTS Threshold to 2304
Fragmentation Threshold to 2304.

Since I did this, I've had no connectivity problems and I can even connect from my backyard, 3 stories down from my router. BTW, my router is the most recent version of the Dlink DIR-655. But nothing will help if you're simply out of range...
