I first noticed this 2 days ago.
After running a MeldaProduction installer, the process wmiprvse.exe runs for 30 seconds or so, with a lot of CPU and disk activity. This is on Windows XP SP2.
Can someone let me know what wmiprvse.exe does and what's going on?
Q: wmiprvse.exe is busy after installing software

Thank you for the link but I still don't see why it would leap into action after running that installer (unless it's pure coincidence). The PC is standalone, not in an enterprise environment.
The process does not usually run and I cannot see any rogue instances on disk - the one in ...\wbem is dated Feb 2009 (Windows XP Home SP2). I've not seen anything odd happening.
Weird.
