Reverb Removal - are we there yet?

Is it still a myth? Does a fully functional reverb removal VST exist? I have a bad camera recording with alot of reverb. A noise gate doesn't cut it. Any other ideas?
OT: I googled "reverb removal" and found several gearslutz links on google - but it seems like gearslutz.com is gone??

No magic solution here, but Schwa's Dyno can give some good results, depending on the material.

Maybe http://www.dyvision.co.uk/reverbremover.html works, haven't tried it. Expect no wonders though...

Depending on where you are it might work ok or not.
It's currently targeted by a DNS hack.dalor wrote:but it seems like gearslutz.com is gone??

I've used it and it works pretty well. It doesn't perform wonders, no, but I got much better results *reducing* the reverb tail on some percussive material with this thing than I did with a gate. I guess it will work much better on clean sounds (like single hits in my case), than on mixed signals.BertKoor wrote:Maybe http://www.dyvision.co.uk/reverbremover.html works, haven't tried it. They offer a fully functional demo btw.

Thanks guys, will try de-verb and DyVision Reverb Remover! I'm not expecting any wonders but there must be something better out there than a gate. Thanks.
Regarding gearslutz.com.. well.. its covered with gear - slutz. literally.

You can also try any envelope shaper (or transient designer) and reduce the sustain portion of the signal. For example Voxengo Transgainer or the very good Envelope Shaper if you happen to have Cubase.

Tac System RevCon-RR. It's an extremely clever piece of DSP. If you're trying to improve location audio, this is probably just the trick.
Dave.
Edit: That's assuming your use of the word "VST" was generic rather than specific - it's ProTools AudioSuite only.

Try Zynaptiq's UNVEIL: http://www.zynaptiq.com/unveil/DaveGamble wrote:Tac System RevCon-RR. It's an extremely clever piece of DSP. If you're trying to improve location audio, this is probably just the trick.
Reasonably priced and works great. VST version announced, AU version already available.

That is most impressive, considering its working on mono sources as well!tahome wrote:Try Zynaptiq's UNVEIL: http://www.zynaptiq.com/unveil/DaveGamble wrote:Tac System RevCon-RR. It's an extremely clever piece of DSP. If you're trying to improve location audio, this is probably just the trick.

No, it's not a myth any more. Yes, a fully functional reverb removal plug-in does exist.dalor wrote:Is it still a myth? Does a fully functional reverb removal VST exist? I have a bad camera recording with alot of reverb. A noise gate doesn't cut it. Any other ideas?
In fact, I couldn't believe my ears when I demoed Zynaptiq's Unveil a couple of days ago.
I had this jazz recording, made in a less than ideal, rather big hall. Applying Unveil, I could get it to sound almost as a studio recording, with no audible musical compromises.
Amazingly, Unveil doesn't just remove the verb tails - it also cleans up the room muddiness in the notes!
Of course it also works wonder on video dialog recorded in untreated rooms and/or from a too long mic distance.
One should be careful using the word 'revolutionary', but Unveil does earn that epithet. I'm buying it as I write this.
