Guitar distortion pedals are not exactly cheap. It's also very hard to know/guess how they would sound when we put a lead synth line through them. And to bring a synth to guitar shops to try out the pedal is probably not very practical. So I wonder if you guys know some pedals that work well with synth sounds, or can suggest general characteristics of a good pedal that works well for such a job.

Or, maybe, also those that don't work too well, to-avoid-list.

i've got a ProCo Rat 2 pedal which goes nicely with analogue bassline synths. I use it with an MC 202. What kind of synth do you want to put through the distortion though? Obviously not all synth sounds will work well through the Rat. I like bit crusher/bit reduction for synth pads but haven't got any hardware for that.

Thanks for the pointers! I'm thinking 303-ish lines, and those industrial-type, grungy, buzzy, bass and lead sounds and noises.
