hi guys!
i'm looking for a decent audio interface USB, that works with win7, 32 bit, with Cubase 5 or 6, or any other DAW that you may recomend, within 200 euro.
i want to be able to record music using midi keyboard mostly, using virtual instruments without latency, obviously. i'm tired of installing and uninstalling drivers, restarting etc. i was using E-MU 0404 with XP, 7..always problems.
please help! thanx

I currently use the 0404USB with Windows 7 64bit.
It works, but this will be my last EMU audio interface because the drivers support is really bad. The latest driver is pretty old and still labeled as beta...
For me it works though, but I also had some issues.
I ordered the NI Audio Komplete 6, really good looking device.
Unfortunately they are out of stock everywhere so I canceled my order.
Other options:
- M-Audio C400
- Presonus 22VSL
Until USB3 interfaces are out I will stick with the 0404USB.
I also have the M-Audio 24/96 (which always works) so I can wait a bit longer.

I looked pretty extensively for a new interface.
The NI is just the best one you can get for the price, also good user reviews.
I ordered mine for 180,- euros at a sale. At Thomann its also out of stock.
The Saffire6 is USB 1.1.
Even if you don't need more then 48Khz I would not buy it.
The Saffire 8i6 is better but more $$.
For €200,- I would buy a Roland UA-55 Quad Capture or M-Audio C400 then.

Roland Quad Capture is the best choice. I have this interface. Very stable low-latency drivers (Win7 SP1 32-bit), Di-box functionality and very clean preamps.Redje wrote:For €200,- I would buy a Roland UA-55 Quad Capture or M-Audio C400 then.

thanx to both of you for answering. but i have a question...'cos Roland UA 55 seems ok...but are you using it to record music? i mean, not samples, but actually recording what you play on a keyboard, for example.
Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 also looks nice, but i dont understand why it's more expensive...

Yes. Mic (condenser), external synth and electric guitar. No problems.ricii wrote:i have a question...'cos Roland UA 55 seems ok...but are you using it to record music? i mean, not samples, but actually recording what you play on a keyboard, for example.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I bought the Roland Quad-Capture and I am having a major problem with it: it's as if a small part of the headphone signal is leaking into the inputs.
Very simple setup: My Roland UA-55 QUAD-CAPTURE is connected to the PC using the supplied USB cable, and my headphones are connected to the 'Phones' output (nothing plugged into any inputs).
If I set the "Sens 1L" and "Output" knobs anywhere above 75% and record the "input 1", I would expect only noise and hiss to be present in my recording (since no input is plugged in and the gain is turned up high). Instead, my recording also picks up (to a barely noticeable level) whatever sound is played through my headphones (Almost as if I had an incredibly bad microphone plugged into Input 1).
Even though it's barely noticeable, if I proceed and plug in my guitar in Input 1 and feed that to a high gain / distortion preset in Amplitube, the backing track I'm playing over also gets picked up from the headphones, amplified, distorted, and so on. If I set the level high enough, I can even get feedback (like when you point a microphone to a speaker and get the squealing noise). As you can imagine, it's VERY annoying.
I have tried several computers, several headsets, several driver versions, ASIO , DirectSound, WaveOut, WDM Streaming, same problem. My friend bought the same audio interface from the same online store, and he also experiences the same issue. So I believe it is a design flaw with the device, not a malfunction of my unit only. I have tried turning on an off each switch and knob on the device itself, and in the driver settings, but nothing seems to fix it. The problem seems to be directly linked to the 'Phones' output: I can avoid it if I don't plug the headphones but instead connect a set of amplified speakers in the outputs on the rear side of the device. But that defeats my purpose: I bought this device specifically so that I can play and record while listening to backing tracks on my headphones.
Here's a sample of what gets recorded from Input 1L when I play a backing track in Winamp with nothing else connected to the device except the USB cable and the headphones (i have raised the level to make the problem more obvious). https://dl.dropbox.com/u/44983590/Rolan ... roblem.mp3
Has anyone experienced anything similar ? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you

@ricii
To my relief, I cannot find this behaviour with my UA-55 unit.
Here's how I tested it:
"ASIO direct monitoring" is activated in the Quad-Capture driver (v1.51).
Inputs Sens 1L and Sens 2R are set to full amplification, no cables plugged in.
Output setting is 50%.
USB Mix is at 50% (default) first, then 0% and 100%.
In REAPER: Sens 1L and Sens 2R are recorded while another track plays music.
First round with headphones plugged in, another without headphones.
I bought mine a year ago. And am really happy with it.
Greetings
D.

@Debby747
Thank you so much for your help so far. Would you mind doing the test again, same setup, but this time go up to 75% on the Output setting (I know these settings are impractical, but it's the easiest way to make the problem obvious). Also, if your headset is equipped with a volume control, please leave it all the way up. If that doesn't do it, enable the HiZ setting on Sense 1L. The USB mix should be anywhere between 0% and 50%.
I look forward to hearing from you soon, Thanks!

Oops!
With Hi-Z enabled and the Output volume all the way up,
there is indeed bleeding from the headphone output to both Sens 1L and Sens 2R channels.
I used extreme settings, but ricii was right in his observation,
the key factor being the activated Hi-Z switch + high output volume.
I still think this is an amazing interface for the little price.
(And I hope I haven't damaged it by now.)
Depending on the particular setup, one might encounter the bleeding, though.
Since I usually use neither the Hi-Z switch nor high gain settings,
I have not yet found it to be a problem.
Greetings

Debby747, thank you very much for your help, I hope your interface has not sustained any injuries during these procedures
Even though I consider this an amazing interface (minus the issue at hand), I have decided to return it, since this problem is a showstopper for me.
So I guess I'll get back to looking for a new interface. Thanks again, Bye
