As far as improving your music, that depends on what you have done and what you want to accomplish. I can't help you there, since I don't make metal music. Check Amazon for books and videos.

I used a site called "The recording revolution" to help me get my head around general mixing technics, it has some very useful 5 min vids.
Its definatly not a rock & metal based site but it may give you a start, without ploughing through loads of books.

hope this helps

I rad the first edition of this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Mixing-Audio-Seco ... 486&sr=8-3

It was pretty helpful. The only bad thing was that the book is written by a non native english speaker, so there are some really really bad typos/grammar mistakes/ etc. Some are so bad that the passage becomes unintelligible. However, they may have fixed this in the second edition by actually hiring an editor (whoever edited the first book, if anyone at all, needs to retire).

Other than that, it is an excellent and thorough look at mixing. Different genres are covered, examples (including audio examples) are given, and the entire mixing process is exposed in painful detail.

These videos are excellent for getting a deeper understanding of mixing techniques.
Not just basic stuff but real "meat and potatoes" details and depth.
While I have not seen specifically metal as the focus, the techniques are solid and should apply to all kinds of music.
GREAT MIXING GUIDES!
They are also on sale for %30 off using the "SAVENOW" discount code, gotta dig saving money.
