Problem with FL Studio, please help!

Hey there guys. Basically my FL Studio keeps lagging, stuttering, cracking when i work on big projects. It's fine in the beginning but when i start adding many VST's and automating things then it really messes up. I can't finish any tracks because it's impossible..i am so annoyed.

These are my PC specs:

Intel Pentium 4
CPU 2.80GHZ, 2.79GHZ (says both)
1.5GB Ram

(in the video the audio is distorted, that's not how it really is, the recording software just recorded it that loud, no idea why)




Do i need more ram? I've tried many different ways to stop the lag but it's just not working (the buffer is at it's highest) i even changed the ammount of memory FL uses so it can use the maximum (1.5gb), which just made it even worse.

I would really appreciate any help. it is so fackin frustrating.

The P4 is very low spec for what youre trying to do and although you can work with it, it wont do many plugs or vsti together. Audio tracks will be fine. Adding more RAM wont help Im afraid. Freezing the vsti tracks will help but another PC is the only real way.

Can you recommend good PC's for Music production?

PC's that can handle loads of plugins being used at the same time layered like Sylenth, Nexus, Massive..etc

Already did man. doesn't make a difference.

i used asio4all (selected in the the audio options) in an acer laptop 2GHz, 1GB ram, far less buffer length (i see in your video that your's is all the way up!!!) and it worked like charm.
Also try: Resampling --> Linear
Priority --> Highest

On a brighter note, even the cheapest PC that you can find now is inmensely more powerful than your current computer.

I had the exact same problem 5 years ago. To the letter! I tried to install a new soundcard which helped marginally, but the real eye opener came when I upgraded to a Core2Duo processor with 2 GB RAM. It let me use up to 8 Nexus at once without going down. I had to lower the polyphony to it's lowest to get even a decent sound out of Nexus on my P4 with 512 MB RAM.

Now I've upgraded once more and I sit tight on a Core i7 with 8 GB RAM that I upgraded just recently.

So if you want to spend time composing music instead of trying to get oversized plugins to work with an under diminished system, then go for it! Because when I upgraded to my Core2Duo it helped me write over 500 songs in these 4½ years I had it installed.

even though that machine on argos is super-lowend (by todays standards) and 'only' has a celeron g530 processor, it's STILL in the order of 5x faster than your old school p4-2.8 (passmark rating of 2273 vs 414) - indeed it's about the same performance as a 4 year old core2duo e8400, lots of which are still cranking out music just fine

if it's all you can afford it'd still be a marked improvement

Thanks for all the replies guys. After also reading about PC's for music production, I think I'm going to for a Zoostorm Core I7 2600. With 8GB ram.
