I have the suite too, but I would say: For the 50 bucks get Valhalla Room instead....

In CSR, (and in general) rooms are great for guitar, drums and percussion. Plates for vocals and piano, Halls for ballad piano, strings, big background vocals and synth pads. Inverse or gated stuff works best with drums and percussion, mostly the former's snare, and maybe on vocals for special effects.
Of course, hit producers break these conventions all the time, so mess around!
I wouldn't have put that HUGE Hall reverb on the "Pumped Up Kicks" chorus vocals last year, but damn if it didn't make the track!

why would you recommend vahalla more and what advantages does it have?rasmusklump wrote:I have the suite too, but I would say: For the 50 bucks get Valhalla Room instead....

Apart from actual sound, one important difference betweee CSR and Valhalla, is that Valhalla has a native 64 bit version---while CSR does not, and has given no estimate of when they will.

Can't go wrong with the pack if you know what you're doing (in short, it's not bad).Caine123 wrote:i got the CSR Hall from IKM and and thinking about getting the whole suite for 50 bucks atm including the plate, room, hall and inverse reverb.
Personally I'd rather go for a more flexible reverb, something that has more modulation capabilities rather than "aimed rebuilts". A modulation reverb like Valhalla or ArtsAcoustic Reverb (which I can recommend) bundled with LiquidSonics Reverberate (IR reverb) can do just as much and then some than IKM's CSR alone.
Then again, personal opinion and I can pull off just as good material with a freeware reverb. It doesn't matter, you just need to know how to set it up.
It's as with a 2-grand Lexicon reverb in either hardware or plugin form - it can only do so much if you only go by presets. You create the sound, not the plugin developer.

2CAudio's Breeze is also worth a mention, is really flexible, light on your cpu, and is 64bit.

Download the demo and play with it, see for yourself if it fits your needs.
I use it quite often besides VRoom and Breverb. They all have something personal to them and have their own place. Valhalla is an incredible reverb, top quality, but CSR is very light on the CPU, tweakable as well, have a comprehensive GUI, options, macros... if you like it's character, you can't go wrong at that price. Should be 64-bit soon also (finally).

I wasn't aware you could buy the separate reverbs. I have the whole suite and never use anything but the hall. Of course now I don't even use that since it's not x64.
Anyone know if this is on the map to get a x64 update?

A 64 bit update coming "soon" is news to me. Just last week I asked this question on their forum, and an IK rep. responded that all he could say is that it is being worked on--he would not even provide an estimate of when it would arrive. It does not surprise me that the two IK product types currently on sale --CSR and the Sampletank powered indstruments--are the the ones with no 64 bit versions. IK is, frankly, alienating its customer base on these products, without at least giving more specific guidance on when 64 bit versions will arrive.

Agreed. I was a Sampletank (and all the other 'powered by' products) power user until I made the switch to x64. ST has great sounds in a very convenient ROMpler. But it's worthless to me if I can't use it in my new environment.LAGinz wrote: IK is, frankly, alienating its customer base on these products, without at least giving more specific guidance on when 64 bit versions will arrive.
So, since I've started using other products more, I've found that I really like them. ST3 will really have to be something seriously badass for me to buy in to it at this point.

I think you mean 32 bit.Caine123 wrote:ok dunno atm about 64 bit much but i got a 64 bit system and can use 42 bit pplugins without probmes. so whats the problem when its still 64 bit?
In any event, almost all 64 bit DAWs now have bridges that allow you to use 32 bit plugs in an almost seamless manner.
Now 'almost' is the key here. I have tried to keep my 64 bit DAW clear of 32 bit plugs because I find that the bridge does cause performance problems.
I do keep a 32 bit DAW so I can use some of the older favorite plugs, but ultimately, I will have to go to the 64 bit DAW exclusively.
