Edirol FA-101 inputs not working

i just bought an Edirol FA-101 and cant get my inputs to work. none of the inputs seem to be working.
i am using cubase 5 and windows XP.
i used a creative sound blaster before (huge step up) and the inputs worked fine, so i am assuming the setup in cubase is correct. the outputs are working fine (at least 1 and 2 are) so i know the interface is set up correctly.

what am i missing? i have googled non stop for hours now and i still dont understand whats wrong.
