The GUI looks cool though
I guess it's just a beta GUI though, it'll probably get "chickenhead knobified" later
Cheers

Minimal GUIs for the win! ValhallaDSP is the best example!

I'm a fan of both, as long as they make sense to the user. Basically, any well-designed GUI, be it minimal or photo-realistic.Bronto Scorpio wrote:bduffy wrote:What "GUI"? I guess you like minimal...![]()

Well one thing is for certain: Brainworx is always about innovation.
They pretty much revolutionized the M/S market and made it accessable to the masses. Their "SHRED" plugin can be a valuable helper in productions as well (if you're after that ultra-modern-widespread sound). And since Dirk Ulrich is not only the CEO of Brainworx but also the main guitarist of the Band "Giftig" (poisionous), it's only a logical step to get their (Brainworx) feet into the guitar realm as well.
The guitar market has the most interest, though I can agree that it is oversaturated. Then again, so is the EQ market, compressor market, reverb market and now even the "console type emulation" market as well. Next will be tape and then we can repeat the cycle.
If it counts for anything, we can still mix and match to our hearts content.

People are not gonna buy it if it doesn't look like a real amp.
Though I think the clean strat sounded nice. But that could be the million dollar gear they plugged the guitars in.

Why are there so many AMP Sims? Seems like there is a new one every 2 months.
We have IK, Overloud, then Softube, NI, a million freeware sims and now another?

You forgot Peavy Revalver, Magix Vandal, Line6, the one by a former Marshal designer, the Two Notes Torpedo PI, Steinberg's AMPsim (in Cubase), the one in Logic, etc, etc.
It's as with real hardware - do you go haywire about constant rereleases or "clones" of stompboxes that are clones of stompbox clones as well?
Oh! What about EQs? Do we really need another one?
Or compressors, the same?
What about Reverb? Eventide just joined the VST game!
Do we need another console plugin? Or another channel strip?
What about tape machines?

Most definitely. Way too few high quality and usable ones around.Compyfox wrote:(...)Do we really need (...) another channel strip?
As for the Brainworx plugin ... one part of me says "Whatever. They wanna have a go at guitars - let them. Maybe they'll manage to create something ground-breaking." and another part of me says "WTF? I listened to the sound in the video, and it has no balls, no "thump", it's fizzy and harsh without a lot of gain ... so it's basically like all the others, nothing revolting ... are Brainworx really happy with that?!"
Don't get me started on the mid/side thing. Might be that Brainworx helped make that a modern keyword, but now other developers are starting to put M/S functionality into their normally priced plugins, so paying 4x-5x the price just to have a "bx_" suffix in front of the plugin name ... not that reasonable. I think someone should slowly get off their horse and dive back into creating something new and ground-breaking again.

Well in my eyes, Brainworx plugins are still pretty expansive. As everyone really probably have some apsim, they'd have to come with anything really cool to make people say: "Oooh, I'm gonna spend 200 bucks on another ampsim!"
...or make it really cheap, but I don't expect that.

Brainworx is still harmless compared to Algorithmix - pricewise. And their bx_control and bx_digital is still a great one-of-a-kind. Even though the competition didn't sleep.
Then again, who created the bandwagon and who actually jumped on it first?
On second thought:
Indeed there are not as much channel strips as there are EQ's and compressors. One of the few great ones IMO are still MixControl and the Neve 88RS CS. But that's personal opinion and OT.
