anyone built one? i got so close - the headphones were working, but my mic input wasn't.
for starters i found the 3.5mm/4 pole jack really hard to work with. i burnt some of the plastic that shields the different poles from each other.

if i were to do it again, i would likely just mod a camcorder cable - although they are hard to find.

if you are able, lower the heat on your soldering iron you'll get better results
I can't say I'd ever need one for the iPhone personally, but I did similar things back in the days of cassettes and then minidisc recorders
