If you have hardware synth (e.g nord wave , yamaha motif )
1. How do you connect it via an interface (e.g apogee symphony ) 2. And can you play it with a midi keyboard
3. Does the sounds come into the daw as midi or audio , e.g when working with vsts you can edit notes in the piano roll
I'm confused I mean if a hardware synth has a keyboard do you necessarily have to use them or you can use an mpk and

you connect it using either 1/4" plug audio cables or SPDIF for audio and USB or MIDI cables for MIDI(depending on what is available) , and it comes in as audio or MIDI depending on which data you're trying to get. Remember, MIDI is just note data, not sounds.

Apogee Symphony is a modular system. What's your configuration?10ndayii wrote:1. How do you connect it via an interface (e.g apogee symphony)
Regardless, you'd connect the audio (line) output of a synth to a line input of the audio interface. Then you can record on your DAW what you play on the synth.
Next step up is to connect Midi Out of the interface to Midi In of the synth. Then the midi notes scribbled in your DAW can be played by the synth.
When also Midi In of the interface is connected to Midi Out of the synth, then your synth can act as a midi controller for the DAW.
Any combination of these is valid, it depends on what you want to achieve.
Sure: midi out of keyboard --> midi in of synth.10ndayii wrote:And can you play it with a midi keyboard
That depends on weather you record it as audio or as midi. Both can be done.10ndayii wrote:Does the sounds come into the daw as midi or audio , e.g when working with vsts you can edit notes in the piano roll
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
