You know i never thought about this before but friend of mine asked me about it and it turned that i simply don't know the answer.

Since i do this always manually i never think of it...listen to this..

Is there any audio editor or simply a tool which will automatically extract songs from one big recording? So for example my friend have one big audio file and it contain 10 songs inside that same file. So is there a tool which will automatically analyze that file and extract each song separately to separate files?

I was thinking about it and it shouldn't be hard. Such tool should have some kind of simple algo which will detect silence between tracks and based on that it will cut and extract audio on the positions where silence disappear. Obviously if it is live recording there should be some kind of silence treshold parameter because there isn't perfect silence between songs in live recordings (example crowd noise).

Ideally such application should also have fade in, fade out option which could be applied for every track.

Does anyone know for such tool?

Any audio editor with a detect silence function will do it. It's a pretty common feature.

IF the songs are all solidly slamming all the way though it might be 'easy' to program it.

But what if you have quiet sections?

Is it REALLY that difficult for you to copy and paste 10 times to new files???

Sometimes just sitting down and getting it DONE is far faster and easier than trying to figure out ways around things...

Agreed. Just do it. Manually. You'll be done in 60 seconds.

Guys you can agreed to each other or not it's not related to topic question and i was not asking about wise romantic advice :?

I already said i know how to do it and i do it manually. I asked because of my friend. I did not know that i need to go in to details i thought that simple question will do it but here you go again:

I asked because of friend of mine. I am already aware of gazillion of editors which can do it (as i already mentioned it i do it just like you do guys). I specifically asked about automatic process. I asked it because my friend barely use computer, he only use it to browse web news and that's about it. He got some recordings of his band from past and now he want somehow automatically extract songs from these recordings.

So i asked about application which can do it automatically (underlined again) and which is sort of user friendly without need to learn something. Just basic load file, press extract and you are done. Something like that.

Does anyone have anything to recommend (save me because if such application does not exist he will force me to do it next time when i visit him  )
