Can any softsampler be used with A3000 files?

The A3000 can export as AIFF, so any soft sampler that can read AIFF will do it. You can use Midi, SCSI or floppy discs to transfer the files to your PC. I don't know of anything that can read the Yamaha sample format directly, other than their hardware samplers.

My reason for asking is that I found a bargain priced sample CD in A3000 format, can other samplers read that CD, or do I need to load it via A3000 nevertheless?

I would imagine that an A4000 or A5000 could also read it with a suitable SCSI CD reader attached, but I don't know of any software that can ... IIRC not even Yamaha's non A series samplers can read the files.

I have no idea how good this works, but chickensys translator is supposed to be able to convert from yamaha a-series:
