Razor is still, as a once famous street-savvy producer said - "Wicked"

What an amazing and unique synth! This is still my favourite spectral synth, though I've tried Harmor and would buy that too if I could. Razor just has an immediacy about it, and a sharpness to the sound that makes it great for bass (wobble or otherwise).
It's also got some really unique effects such as the waterbed filter, synth reverbs that can track pitch, the dissonance FX, the filters where the resonant peak is a little barbershop freakshow...
Also, one of the only really positive things to come from the new VST preset system in Cubase 6 and up is that it's letting me save and recall patches in the Reaktor player now, so I can start making patches. One of the biggest drawbacks was that you couldn't do this before, but now you can.
Anyone else still loving Razor?

It's an additive synthesis synth, not spectral by the way.Sendy wrote:What an amazing and unique synth! This is still my favourite spectral synth, though I've tried Harmor and would buy that too if I could. ?

It's wickedly inspiring, and I love the interface - easy to just swap out parts and "see what happens".
Only drawback (IMHO) is that I sometimes have a hard time getting it to play well with others (sit in the mix), though I haven't used it on a finished track yet (mostly because I almost never finish tracks
Reaktor is still a very solid synthesis engine. I know a lot has happened in the DSP world even since Core, but for the most part even the older Reaktor synths just plain sound good, and have awesome feature sets (Photone and Carbon are good examples). And I love that little modulation-recorder module.
Reaktor 6 PLEEEEZE!

Funny that i just "re"-dicovered Razor last Sunday. Having it on my drive since i upgraded to Komplete 8 half a year ago, but it seems i always overlooked this great synth.
At the moment i love everything that's spectral, additive, resynth, wavetable, ...
I specially like Razor for creating wierd pads and bell type instruments.
Cheers,
Gerald

Nope, no demo, and I don't have Kontakt so I had to go on a bit of a leap of faith and hope the free Reaktor Player would cooperate with me. Luckily it paid off and Razor was a really well priced investment.
Torley gives a good runthrough of all the presets on youtube, so if you like the sound of those and you can afford the cash and CPU cycles, I'd say go for it. It can do things that are very unique and usable, and as I've said before, the sound cuts like a knife which makes it ideal for bass and other distinctive sounds.
Despite Harmor and Cyclop (which I know isn't additive, but has a similar in your face attitude and fun factor) and Blade (which to be honest I never liked the sound of - seemed thin and wiry when I was playing with the oscillators), Razor is still very relevant yet seems to have been somewhat forgotten.

That bug has been around since v 1hibidy wrote:The lfo's don't sync properly in reaper. If you set them to beat and add notes it get all whompy. And as far as I can tell you can't get the numbers right manually.

I'm watching the macprovid on it and it's like "well, now that I can do this, it doesn't work"Sampleconstruct wrote:That bug has been around since v 1hibidy wrote:The lfo's don't sync properly in reaper. Not to drag everything all off topic, but NI seems to be w/o any need to fix ANYTHING of late........
back on topic, Razor does sound lovely. Now that I have a clue on how to use it it's nice (got the macproviddy 50% off so figured it was worth the 9 bucks to figure it out

That's not entirely off topic one posters start asking about an NI product - they should be aware that NI are not as responsive as many of the independent devs we are used to dealing with here at KVR. (Even when those guys are duking it out on some "I'm more analog" thread, at least you know they're alive and listeninghibidy wrote:Not to drag everything all off topic, but NI seems to be w/o any need to fix ANYTHING of late........
I still like NI products (most of them just plain sound good), but I always consider that I'm purchasing something from them "as is". The products I've used are not buggy (have SOME bugs, but not bugGY).
