Hi All,

I found this when I was going through the Raspberry Pi Site. It doesn't look like it's been mentioned on KVR before (I did a quick search). Anyway looks useful, both for beginners and rusties (like me):

I dont know if it's in the rest of the comic but the first thing I learned when I was a kid is missing..."tinning". It speaks of keeping the tip clean, but not tinning which is very important for proper heat transfer
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

^ It was the second thing I learnt, after don't touch the tip (again  ), but it should be in. I don't think about it anymore, as I just do it.

I'll ask them.

They got back to me and said:
I do this all the time, but we considered it too advanced for a total beginner (who may not know how much solder to apply to the tip).  It may be included if we do an advanced version of the comic
Which is fair enough IMO.

I'm assuming that new irons are usual good enough not to require it.

I got a digital station one recently, but I haven't tried it without tinning. It is a lot better/more consistent than my old antex though. Even given the £40 it cost.
