I'm very interested in this plugin, but it is too expensive for me right now. Do you think that I can get the same results with cheaper plugs?, maybe using a conv reverb with the right impulses? Clever filtering to match speaker response?

Thanks in advance

Of course there are.various ways to accomplish similar results. Speakerphone doesn't have any secret sauce.... Everything is laid out for you on the screen. But what it does have is a ton of great impulses and a lot of flexible modules, all easily accessible in one place. I think its worth every penny (although I did get it on sale).

I picked it up a while ago here for a great deal! It's a great plugin, very unique but I don't use it that much as I thought I would. I don't know any free plugin that does the same, for example the bad GSM reception is much more than just an IR and sounds real.
Also everything can be customized till the cows come home and the library is enough to experiment for whatever you're after.

The fact that one can import samples and use them to augment an ambience is unique and very useful, especially for playing live, you can have quite a lot going on simultaneously. In addition, I've found this to be about the best guitar amp and reverb effect combination, you can achieve some amazing guitar tones, and for vocals, with all the unusual IRs, it is wonderful. This is a very versatile and creative plug in.

Thank you all. I should start saving for it then. :)

I didn't know it was also for PC. I thought only MAC.

I'm also interested in Speakerphone and think it's a bit expensive for what it does. So does anyone know of any alternative ways to get the same results?

It's been discussed before and I think the consensus was that it would take numerous other plugs to try and replicate all that Speakerphone can do, and of course you wouldn't have the fantastic AudioEase IRs and onboard ambient recordings to draw on. I actually sold my copy a while back, but I'd highly recommend for post pro or any sound design toolbox.

Ok. Any opinion of the amp and distortion capabilities of Speakerphone? Would it, just talking amps and distortion, in reality be able to replace an ampsim like Guitar rig?

I think that this writer represent a large amount of Speakerphone owner.
Namely I've heard many similar comments, "great plugin but for some reason
don't use it very much". I've owned Speakerphone since it was launched,
that time space modelling in that scale and diversity wasn't very common
in one plugin. I addition to differet spaces S. produces "background noices"
for different puposes.

Although the number of different convolution verbs and cabinet/amp modelling plugins has increased almost exponentially during last 5 years, S. is still unique of it's kind. But as "dalor" stated, for some reason I also notice that
I haven't used it very much - maybe the one reason for that is that plugin is rather CPU-hungry, an other maybe paradoxically diversity of different spaces.
I should use it more - but playing with it is great fun!
Maybe the developer could do something (next version?) to promote the use, maybe some kind of competition "send a music track where you have used S. in creative way"...

As Polyslax says, it encompasses quite a few things, so it takes a lot to replicate all the functionality, and you'd still be missing the audio assets (samples and IRs).

For much of the distortion and speaker side of things, I'd personally start with something like Trash and a convolution plugin (in fact, someone oughta start petitioning Izotope to add a convolution stage and bring out Trash 2). Permut8 and/or Bitspeak would cover some of the comms glitch stuff, and a different amp sim for the guitar side of the speaker stuff. some effects like izotope Vinyl, TB Reelbus TB Ferox, and TB Timemachine, the Radio FX VST, and Voxengo Radio as a starting point for record, sampler, tape, and radio artefacts. delay, leslie, compressor and EQ of your own choice. Add a modular host to route them in, and a sample player.

Which is fine if you've got a selection of effects like that in the first place. It might add up a bit if you dont...

You'd still need to source samples and IRs though. The cover IRs are actually the set that might be hardest to find alternatives too, IMO.

Same question here...

Nevermind.

There are just too many problems with Audioease to bother with Speakerphone.

:?

- There is no demo.
- There is no info on if I can sell my copy, if I decide to, or not.
- I can't contact Audio Ease with any questions without having a mail client installed, which I won't since I only use Hotmail.com.

And...
- According to their answers to questions on their forum, there is *no* 64 bit version coming anytime soon. They don't even seem to have started any such development.

Klagga. Here's what I know. If you bought your sp2 you can sell it but you need permission.
Their support email is support@audioease.com You have to ask them. And if they say yes and they do unless you're nfr you transfer your ilok to new owner and send them An email with new owners info. Untill they do a final approval the new owner will to see the ilok auth on their ilok page but it will say awaiting for approval from audioease. I'm in the process of buying a second hand altiverb7 so this is first hand knowledge:)
