I am trying to figure out this program and can't get the hang of it. I guess they need you to actually read the manual but I want to know if anyone is using it like this before I go investing time trying to learn this thing.

I'm absolutely using Cantabile for switching amp sims / FX - and it does a very nice job.
The thing to get your head around is using sub-sessions. You can use a foot controller to switch between setups.
