mapping pitch wheel to an XY?

Hi, I'm using Zebra 2 with an EWI USB. The EWI sends Channel Pressure messages on wind pressure and pitch wheel on mouthpiece bite. I can map the wind pressure to an XY pad by using midi learn, but I can't get the pitch wheel to control the Y.

I *can* get the pitch wheel to modulate stuff using the mod matrix, but can't get the channel pressure message recognized there. I'd like to set both in the same way, anyone know whether this is possible?

And if not, consider it a feature request! Zebra is a great sound source for wind control, but it sure would be easiest and make the most sense to a wind player to have those two become an XY pair as we think of them together.

thanks!
Iain

"ATouch" modulation not working in the matrix - are you sure? That would be very strange indeed.

Of course neither channel pressure nor pitchbend are MIDI CCs (why oh why...)

I have no idea why channel pressure isn't a CC, it wastes an entire message class (0xDn) for one message that is formatted exactly like a CC.

Pitch bend might not be a CC because it is an early example of 14-bit resolution and this was before MSB/LSB was added to the MIDI spec.

I've seen in a few synths (Omnisphere and Synth Squad) they let you remap what it internally thinks of as channel pressure. Not so sure about Pitchbend though -- maybe an idea for Z3?

Well I did manage to get the breath pressure recognized in the matrix, but didn't figure out how to do it with the XY controllers.

Maybe your host app lets you convert pressure (and even pitchbend) to a regular CC - that's the only way I can think of doing what you described. BTW Why do you want to modulate via the X/Y pads anyway?
