Okay. The mastering challenge.

Each month we will master a track for free. You may use free or commercial plug-ins. You do not gain any rights over the music or the mastering in anyway at anytime no matter what you do. Track belongs to the owner end of story.

Loud but invisible
Loud but fairly transparent
Loud and in your face

Loud Soft
Loud Med
Loud Hard

Are you maybe referring to the difference between compression levels and input volume levels to achieve similar overall loudness?

I would say have them professionally mastered then have us beat it.

How about Clear and Full instead of loud and in your face that's the volume knob is for on the sound system.

I've heard bad things about Beverly Kills. It's just anecdotal though, I have no experience of them myself.

This guy is good, i've used him before.

loud is in your face ,the louder the more it's in your face?

why not transparent or colored that usually what ppl ask for mastering.

I've updated the description.

What I meant was people can submit UP to three tracks, but no one is require to do so.

The options are just meant to give leeway for people who have different tastes.

Maybe there should be just two? Transparent & Coloured?

Well read the updated versions and let me know.

I'm sorry but it is a joke to have a mastering contest where the main gist is make it loud, louder and loudest. Just make sure you volume match when you do the judging and those that squashed it will lose easily. If you don't volume match your ears can be tricked pretty easy.

(Customers does not want to detect any change to the mix, just louder)

...so, is this a loudness maximizer contest then?

Of course "customers" will usually tend to wrong any change just because it sounds different...

I suggest you remove these kind of rules and encourage ppl to do what they think they should in order to get a great mastering job, this way the competition will be more interesting and ...I might give it a shot (not that I'm good at mastering but otherwise the contest doesn't seem interesting)

I assume that the reason you are requesting this is for high quality files to be artifact free... but we will download all files eventually anyway so what's the point?

I also think it would definitely be a better idea to simply let people do what they want

And please don't make the track louder, or provide a volume matched version. Judging the difference will be impossible otherwise!

I'll definitely give it a try later!

You guys do whatever you want. I just figured that mostly ME's today are expected to (among other things) make it as loud as commercial recordings.

We will call this month a pilot and see how interesting things get.

I only suggested media fire because I don't know what else to suggest. If someone else can take care of organizing the file/hosting that would be even better!

Actually, my original suggestion was that the person who's track it was would tell us what he wanted.

Geoff could you chime in?
