Post

I wasn't sure where to post this, so feel free to move it as it is important. Also, I did a search, and didn't see any immediate info on this subject, but this is fairly important if you use Soundcloud to store your tracks.

While it sucks, do check your tracks and protect yourself.

A 3rd party site, deregalos.fm, has been distributing and allowing music listed on soundcloud for download without the consent of us artists. Supposedly Soundcloud is aware of it.

Here's a blurb about it over on Mixsposure:
http://www.mixposure.com/ranking.php?mo ... e=blog.tpl

So, if you have music on soundcloud, check the 3rd party site, search for your tracks or your account name. Myself, and several of my colleagues have their tracks on the 3rd party site, and have taken actions to prevent them from being downloaded.

Protect yourselves and your music. Set your soundcloud tracks to private to prevent them from being downloaded on that 3rd party site.

It sucks that people have to pull this kinda crap.

Hola!!! Incréible!!!

They really seem to have stolen most songs from Soundcloud, they even have 2 songs by me, Tricky Loops.

How could I detain them from offering my songs to download?

OTOH, it could be a good promotion to have the songs on a Spanish website, even if the mp3 quality seems to be a bit crappy...:?

EDIT: Both of my songs were not downloadable at Soundcloud. How can they be downloadable at Del-Regalo??

Post

Now minutes after I wrote the post above, they've deleted my songs from De-Regalo. Are they checking which songs at Soundcloud weren't given free to download?? Or did they read that post?? :o :)

Post

yeah, seems mine are taken down now as well since I've been spreading the word around. *shrug*

Also I mistyped, guess it's deregalo no "s"

Anyway, hope they get taken out of commission. I mean, I offer my own music freely, but that doesn't mean I want some 3rd party distributing it or potentially selling it for ringtones or whatever other BS they come up with.

Not to mention clients' music I might be using as part of my portfolio. Yikes!

If you want to know, "de regalo" means "as a gift" in Spanish. They seem to be good candidates for closure, just a matter of time.
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

They've got all the music from my website.

They should call themselves "de robando"... :x

I remember an other meta-search-engine called "splaylist" that was broken down already some months after the start. So this meta-search-engine will have a similar end...

BTW, I want to have back the legally correct Grooveshark. It still isn't usable in Germany because of copyright issues with the German GEMA...

Recently I did a Google search on one of my track, to my surprise I found the entire album on illegally sharing websites, torrents, rapidshare and all that. I made it available for free on Jamendo after all, so didn't pay much attention to it. In fact it's free advertisement for me because they credited me nice and proper with a link to my blog. Only thing that made me sad was there are one or two .RU sites selling it. Can't help it, don't have time and energy to go after these people. That's my story.

Looks like they couldn't be bothered stealing my music.

Sometimes I would be, too, but if I create a song for a remix contest and make it intentionally NON-downloadable because of the copyright law, then I don't want to get into trouble because a certain meta-search-engine offers it for download.

In the future there should be a streaming service whereat you can listen to all songs of the world and pay a fair fee per month. So the artist would have a revenue dependent of how often the song is played.

Grooveshark was some "streaming service" I really loved. But unfortunately I can't listen to it from Germany because of the GEMA, and it's locked now since more than a year...

I've been trying to get them to take mine for ages and they still haven't

Just searched that de-regalo site and one of my tracks is on there. It's the first track I ever uploaded to soundcloud (like a year ago) and it had no comments and very few listens. I'm actually kind of psyched to see it out there - even on a lame pirate site.

This is really sad...
but it made my day! :D

They didn't like my musica!
