Hey there guys,

I am Flo, developer at Non-Lethal Applications.
We just released our non-linear VTR application Video Slave last week and would like to share that news with you.

There is a demo version of the software available from http://www.non-lethal-applications.com/ ... r-vtr.html (http://www.non-lethal-applications.com/products/video-slave-quicktime-based-non-linear-vtr.html) which can be unlocked by a serial number in case of purchase.

Quick feature overview :

- Sync to incoming MIDI Timecode from all available MIDI input sources
- Works on all Intel Macs running 10.6.8 or higher
- Helps you organize your files in playlists ( e.g. all reels of feature films )
- Can display a timecode overlay
- Can add / remove / edit QuickTime TC tracks
- Plays all QuickTime compatible codecs
- And more ...

Check it out!

In case you have questions, drop me a message at flo[at]non-lethal-applications[dot]com

Best regards,

Flo

Made that link clickable.

Truth be told, interesting concept (especially for large scale or TV studios) if you want to use a stand alone MAC as video rig. Do you maybe plan to offer that system for PC's as well?

Thanks for making the link valid!

We are not planning on writing a PC variant of the software.
A Mac Mini can be bought a few hundred bucks and serves perfectly as host for Video Slave.
With the newer ones, you also have a Thunderbolt interface that more and more ( video ) hardware manufacturers are adopting.

We are currently working on AJA and BlackMagic Thunderbolt interface support and "streamers and punches".
This way you can grab your Mini from the studio and just plug it in at the scoring stage.

There are also some competing applications on PC while there are just a few on Mac.

Best,

Flo

Thanks for the info.

Not a lot people still know what a MIDI time code is, or how to create/connect it. To you have some devices to recommend which work best with your software?

What about SMTPE codes that (for example) Cubase can generate as AUDIO OUT?

Really?
I was really hoping the post guys knew that :-)
But thanks for the hint! I will consider creating a tutorial on how to setup your DAWs to export MIDI timecode.

Well, LTC / SMPTE timecode functionality is definitely on the list.

It's actually a lot easier to setup everything with MIDI Timecode.
You don't even need to wire up a MIDI interface, you can use network MIDI ( also when your MTC Master is a PC ).

I have a tutorial on my website how you can establish the connections to get Video Slave working.
You can find it here :

Best,

KVR is more software oriented than old hardware oriented GearSlutz. I'm asking just in case. Thanks for the link.

Using MIDI through LAN opens different possibilities as well. Setting up rigs nowadaya is way simpler than yesteryear for sure.

I know that this thread is from 2012, but between this statement:

And with some surprise, found this one in Geartsluts forums from 2016:

"We of course considered making a Windows version from Video Slave and we're positive that we will do so in the future.
However, this is not something you should expect to see in the coming weeks or months."

We are currently in the planning phase for the next version.
I wouldn't dare to make any announcements at this early stage.

is there something in the Horizon for PC from NLA?, we, PC users are without great tools from Video Sync and or tools that are not suporte anymore (like MTC VideoSlave from Gregor Anich), or apps that work irregulary.

Any statement from NLA about a PC version anytime?.
