Metro is on sale for a few more days, here:

There are a couple of features I find interesting, though I do not need another "DAW" - I am wondering who is using this on a Windows machine(s), and if you have found the "Rhythm Explorer" useful, or 'limited'?

I just bought it; it looks like the dev might be starting to 'plug into' KVR...

The free upgrade to version 7 looks huge; and the program itself looks really small-probably tightly coded. I'm taking a chance with this admittedly; but the price for what you seem to get is phenomenal.

Score printing and high-level midi manipulation are what hooked me.

And audio and video....

Thanks for that. I'm 'on-the-fence', but I've grabbed many many other things including full-blown DAWs for a "feature" or two, and not regretted it (ultimately).

Metro is an excellent DAW. I actually helped inspire "Rhythm Explorer." I was friends with Jeremy and doing some Photoshop stuff at the time and I think I turned him on to a suite of plug ins for Photoshop called "Kai's Power Tools" which had similar functionality for image manipulations. Fun. Rhythm Explorer is similarly fun and I used to use the hell out of Metro for all my recording... most of the older stuff on my site was done with Metro. It was fantastically advanced back in it's early days compared to the competition.

Then there were the 12tone years... which were fine but they abandoned it and for a time there was no Metro. During that time I converted to Digital Performer Luckily Jeremy got the rights back at some point and is selling it again, but I'm so deep in Digital Performer and Live I sadly say that I don't use it much. Part of it's flexibility also makes it a bit of a challenge to use. Getting a VSTi running inside it takes far too many steps. I think it's a fine choice for a DAW, but I'd also like to see it's UI re-configured as if it was being made from scratch today.

Very interesting, zerocrossing!

Then perhaps one of the best things that Jeremy could do for both himself and Metro is hang out in forums like KVR. Since he's working on version 7 now (assuming that Met7 coding is not currently frozen) maybe this would be a good time for people such as yourself and others to provide Jeremy input (if he's open to it) for further tweaks and enhancements?

I don't know how you get a VSTi running in less than one step. For me, I select a VSTi from the graphic editor and then play on my keyboard. One step.

Hello my old friend... could I have been on an old version? I seem to remember I had to do some odd tricks to get a basic instrument track running but I will admit it was some time ago.

Er... the manual is written for Mac user only. When was the last time it was updated? Or is there a Windows version hidden somewhere?

Also, since the docs are a mess (or, at least, really old), is there a change-log on the website? Mainly I want to know if Metro supports multi-cores... And If not, will it in the upcoming v.7?

This is true. The manual is mostly mac based but almost everything is applicable to the windows version.

Yes. The Metro Forum has a change log in the announcements section. As for multi-cores, the windows version (32 and 64 bit) takes full advantage of all cores if the 'multi-core' processing switch is turned on. This switch can be found in the device option dialog accessed from the digital audio setup dialog. There is an additional option to turn off multi-core when mixing or rendering.

The mac version fully support multi-cores in version 7 only. Before version 7 it supports 2 cores but not fully.

Additionally version 7 adds a per plug-in switch to turn off multi-core processing. This is useful to workaround the synthedit multicore problem.
