Reaktor Player 'Free' comes with 'NuSkool' drum machine, download it, use it then come back to the this thread and tell us what you think..:)
I tried Reaktor and Newschool. Pretty cool, I like what I can get out of it (even though it's my first use of Reaktor). However, I couldn't figure out a way to get the beats evolving by themselves. Can it definitely do that without my intervention?

I could hit the RND button every once in a while to start a different pattern while using the same kit, but this usually leads to an abrupt jump between very different patterns. Or I could modify the pattern in that board little by little, but that would require me to be constantly engaged with the computer. What I really want more is to set the thing, let it run, and it will evolve by itself, changing gradually.

Also, I think I can only demo this for 30 min (that's what it says)??? :(

Amazon: why not use an alternative

That's some of the most unique links I've received. Thanks. There's a ton of stuff I have to experiment with now.

If you're using Reaktor to generate beats you might want to check out what my ParamDrum spits out:

I just found the answer to my own question about Reaktor NewSchool from a very nice tutorial video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hxL9615 ... ure=relmfu

Fabio Di Mauro made a wild video with Konkreet Performer and my ParamDrum:

Wow, that is totally beyond me. So far, I'm getting some results from:
1) Xoxos VST effects (esp. Circuit)
2) NI Reaktor 5 NewSchool
3) Psychic Modulation Cubix VST

I've tried other complicated things without giving them too much time (e.g., Noatikl 2, Nodal, DelaMancha Erratic 2, etc.) but the above were the easiest to get started on creating some evolving beats. I'll give a fuller update when my search is complete (I like threads which reach some kind of resolution).

Try pumping a drum loop through Supa Trigga, a granulator that is chaotic but very controllable.

One of my favorites.

If you like Cubix (as I do), you'll probably like µTonic from Sonic Charge. Great synthetic sounds, and a nice pattern sequencer and morphing. Probably worth a try.

I'm demoing the Sonic Charge MicroTonic. I like the sounds and patterns a lot. I was able to get some randomization into it playing with some of its knobs, etc. But when I asked the support line at Sonic Charge whether it can create self-evolving beats without my intervention, they said that it doesn't have this feature.

How would you go about doing something like that in MicroTonic?

Post

I've not tried it, but how about this? There is a demo version available.

Yes, one thing I've thought of is to use loop players that can slice up and randomize your loop, to make it interesting, complicated, and less predictable. This will definitely help. However, what I prefer to do is not to use drum loops and make them unpredictable in this way, but to get a beat pattern to gradually evolve on its own.

The UGO disturbance is nice and reminded me of Glitch: http://illformed.org/plugins/glitch/

As I said, it helps, but not exactly what I had in mind.

By morphing, do you mean that MicroTonic can gradually (smoothly) switch between two preset beat patterns?

No, I think the morph feature is for morphing between two different sets of parameter modifications for a particular sound. I've not played with it very much so far.
