HALion Sonic with Cantabile 2.0.0.2064. MIDI not getting there?

I've been using Cantabile Performer with NI instruments for a few weeks. I'm making the switch from a Receptor. I wanted to add HALion Sonic to a rack. I added HS to a rack by itself with MIDI In set to [Any] and [Omni]. I opened (using Edit) HS and added a few brass instruments. The brass instruments trigger from HS's on-screen keyboard. I close HS and go to Cantabile's on-screen keyboard. No sound from the on-screen keyboard. I added 4FrontPiano to the rack and it sounds from the on-screen keyboard (and my other physical black n' white keyboards as well as the computer keyboard). I put instruments on both sides of HS (with MIDI Pass Thru on) and the surrounding instruments sound, but not HS. Opening HS from Edit, I get sounds from HS's keyboard--and the MIDI lights in HS come on. Triggering from the black 'n whites, the surrounding instruments sound, but not HS, and HS lights don't indicate MIDI.

It appears that MIDI isn't getting to the instantiation of HALion. Yet, it gets to the rack.

Stumped. Any ideas?

Have you checked your MIDI filters in Cantabile to make sure you haven't inadvertantly added one just to Halion sonic?
Cantabile Peformer on Lenovo W530 i7 16Gb, Win7 x64. Halion Sonic 2, OPX Pro II, Korg Legacy Collection Digital, Omnisphere, Real LPC, Amplitube 3.

Yep.

you might find this midi monitor useful.
I have never encountered a situation where a plugin in sees no midi unless there was a filter in the way. The monitor will show whether the midi is getting there.
Also - try substituting - in the same rack - the Halion Sonic with another VSTi and see if that works.

pinkcanaru:
"Substituting in the same rack", I have two instruments in the same rack and they sound! I have a MIDI monitor I haven't used yet. But, it seems if the other instruments (one before, HALion, one after) work...thus the "stumped".

BTW, everything is set to OMNI and ALL

place only Halion in rack - nothing else - in a new clean session.
Does that work?
I see you started from there - in your first post - but just for the helluvit... maybe one more go from a brand new session.

And one other question - Can Halion Sonic be used as an FX unit? Is it possible that you have instantiated the FX version?

Don't think so--it plays from it's on-screen keyboard (but not from Cantabile's)

Keep 'em coming...somebody's going to hit on an idea.

Have you successfully played that Halion Sonic from another host on your Cantabile computer?

From the Cantabile Blog:
Build 2057
It's been a while but there's now a new build of Cantabile. Just a few little bug fixes, but most importantly a fix for a long standing bug where Halion Sonic wouldn't produce sound when part of the initial startup session.
So!!!!
There is a little more to this!
Suggest you download the latest experimental build and see if that works. You can find it at the Cantabile webaite. Perhaps the bug snuck back in.

HA! This looks like a good lead. I'm off to experiment.

Thanks.

I've gotten nowhere in additional testing. Tried the test version to no avail. Tried several other things and I'm at the same place.

Suggest you contact Brad. There is a contact email at the Cantabile Website.
One other thing....
Have you tried putting a second Hal Sonic into another rack?
