Now keep in mind that I'm not trying to rag on you guys. I was going to download Amplitube for the the Ipad. I read a review talking about support. Basically, the guy had purchased Amplitube for his Ipad 2. He later purchased an Ipad 3. When he went to restore his purchases the Amplitube app said he needed to go to the app store and purchase the app again.
Now I'm not sure if all apps are like that, but I thought that when you purchased from the app store it kept a record of your purchase and as long as you had removed it from your old Ipad, it would be an instant download on your replacement Ipad.
At any rate, the person writing the review had said he called IK Multimedia to inquire about the problem they basically laughed him off the phone.
I used to have the free version of Sample Tank on my macbook and really enjoyed it. The free version of Amplitube sounds great and I want it too. However, I'm hesitant to buy them if this policy is in place.
Again, not ragging on you guys and maybe this policy is this way with ALL apps. I'm new at the Ipad thing and plan to have mine for a while., but would rather not have to purchase things over and over again.
Anyway, is this the case with IK Multimedia software?
Again, just asking.
Thank you,
Shawn

This really depends on what the person was trying to do.
When buying a new device, you have some options when first plugging it in to a computer. You can either make it a brand new iPad or select another iPad's backup data and place that on your new iPad. I will take a guess and say the user chose their iPad 2 restore. This will make their iPad 3 have the same data as their iPad 2 except for a few exceptions. In-app purchases do not carry across. Perhaps this is what happened to the customer. Now when they open up Amplitube, none of the downloaded in-app purchases are there. You MUST redownload these. The good thing is, it should NOT cost any money. Many apps even have a "restore previous purchases" button. Since these in-app purchases are tied to your account, they should NOT cost any money as you have already paid for them.
Maybe this is not what happened to the customer, but it is hard to know for sure.

I don't exactly understand this. If it's removed from an iPad, it should not automatically get downloaded to another one. You will have to go back to the AppStore and redownload it. I actually recommend backing up your data to a computer as the AppStore has had apps removed and you won't be able to get it back.

You shouldn't have to repurchase them, but you may need to redownload. If you go to the AppStore, you will see items you already own say "Install" rather than the purchase price. And again, in-app purchases do not carry across from device to device. You need to re-download these from within each individual iPad.

Sounds good. Yeah, not sure what happened with the customer guy. Maybe the app store lost track of what he had purchased. Who knows.
I'll see about getting at least one of the apps when I get a few more dollars.
Thank you,
Shawn

BTW, I should point out, I hope I'm right about the In-App Purchase thing. I have redownloaded in-app purchases on my iPad, but have never tried downloading the same purchase on another iPad under my same user account. But it should work fine. If I update my iPad, I don't believe I have to repay for in-app purchases.

Right - as long as you use the same iTunes account for both devices you can install it on both without repurchasing AND you can restore your in-app purchases since those are also tied only to the iTunes account you are using for each device.
I know this one from experience, I've had our apps and others with in-app purchases installed on at least 5-10 devices without having to worry and not running into an issue.
The ONLY issue I find it hard to get my head around is an easier way to keep app DATA across multiple devices. Admittedly this really rears its ugly head on games where I'm chasing achievements or somesuch and I am not happy trying to figure out how to get the data across without doing a time-consuming backup and restore so it really is me being a bit lazy on that part of it and has nothing to do with apps and in-apps on multiple devices.

Exactly my experience Peter. How many times do I have to start Angry Birds from the beginning?Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:Right - as long as you use the same iTunes account for both devices you can install it on both without repurchasing AND you can restore your in-app purchases since those are also tied only to the iTunes account you are using for each device.

I should mention that the IK "restore purchases" doesn't always go smoothly though. Sometimes it hangs there in la-la land. So I shutdown the device-restart, try again, then usually am successful. I have Sampletank and Amplitube on my iPhone and iPad 2, so it gets a little annoying.
It's amazing that we can complain about such little things, but I think it's because technology should be able to deal with this so we don't have to.

Ha, yes I believe I'm prone to what is commonly referred to as a set of "first world problems" (with the games - I definitely am hearing the real issues noted here about our products, regardless of the humor toward how silly my gaming complaint is).
