hey,

iv'e just ordered the ARC System 2 from IK Multimedia, after i heard a lot of good things about it.

Acoustics and sonic balance was always an issue in my bedroom studio - the room is very small, its shape is uneven, my desk\speakers are in the corner, and there is no acoustic treatment accept for one 1.20x60 rockwool panel i built myself.

how can i help the ARC and bring it to the best results possible?
take in account that this is a room i have to sleep in, and there is no other possible way to arrange the bed or the desk + i'm very short on money after orderin the ARC last night :(

tnx 8)

The first thing I'd do is decide how things are set up. If you are dead set on not moving your set up, cool. Easy first step, though there are ways to rearrange your speakers/listening position in the room to improve sound.

Second, take your time measuring your room for ARC. Maybe do it 2 or 3 times to make sure it's the best it can be.

Last, let ARC do the hard work...

I didn't know i need to buy more stuff in order to start using ARC, a bit disapointed :\

Well you can do it without, i know some people have but you'll get the best results with a stand, the idea is to be out of the room when you measure anyway!

It takes a bit of work to get the best results as well, i'd recommend creating a template with your measurements marked out and attaching a weighted string or laser pointer to the base of the mic. I've got a stand you could have but i'm in the uk.

How can you have a bedroom studio without a mic stand ?

i make electronic music dude, i don't record vocals or acoustic instruments.
Iv'e found a mic stand going for 5 dollars, i think ill just buy it then.

Btw, what cable do i need for the mic (sorry, never used mics in my life, mic noob)?

Post

Just check it's solid cause if it's light the weight of the mic can cause it to tip and make sure the boom arm is long enough to extend the mic a good distance from the base.

I use a template so it needs to be long enough so the base doesn't touch it and i think the more isolated the mic is the better. it takes a bit of work to get the best results but if you create a template for your listening area at least you'll have consistent measurements. Just casually placing can result in a skewed stereo image but Ik added L/R correction to compensate for this. How's it going so far anyway, you tried it yet? :)
