I often use the function to copy a pattern into a MIDI track in Sonar X1 (using the RMV loop patern "D" button). In Sonar X1, I have created a drum map that maps each note to the same value so that the note designations are visible in the piano roll view. I have discovered an anomaly, however.
When I copy a pattern from RMV into a Sonar MIDI track, the note values in the MIDI track are 2 octaves above what the RMV pad identifies for the slice for that event. For example, if the RMV pad indicates that the note value for the first slice in the pattern is C1, then the corresponding MIDI event in the Sonar track is C3. Furthermore, when the MIDI track is driving RMV, playback is mapped correctly. I hear the same pattern that I hear if I were to press the play button in RMV. Since the Sonar MIDI track is offset by two octaves, I a surprised that this works.
Can someone explain this to me?
thanks
Keith

Never mind. I figured it out.
Evidently, different tools assign different MIDI note names to the same note number.
For example, some systems may designate MIDI note 60 (middle C) as C4, and others will designate it C5.

and some as C3 ... yes, the note names are handled pretty different
