I'm having so much trouble with this simple synth sound...

It's from an old track, too, so I get the feeling it's basic hardware.

It's the little background arp/synth at 1:07, alternating between the root and the (lower) fifth.

I know it's probably made with saw waves, but that's as much as I can gather. What gives it that "vocal" quality? That higher formant tweak? I can't figure it out. :-\ All I can guess is a band pass or low pass with high resonance, but so far it's too "noisy" and not pure enough of a sound. Ideas?
