Hi guys,

I am hoping to obtain an Ipad 4 soon after hopefully selling my Ipad 2 and my son into slavery. (kidding).

Anyway, I thought I had seen a list somewhere of interfaces that work with the Ipad 4 using the 30 pin / lightning cable.

Has anybody seen such a list, or can just tell me which interfaces are working for you?

If the interface had midi that worked with the programs, that would be a plus. I'm not opposed to using a camera adapter, but I need a list of those sort of usb interfaces too.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Shawn

The only one I know of that connects with the 30 pin is the Focusrite itrack. If you buy the camera connection kit there are a number of USB interfaces that will work. They need to be class compliant and will usually need additional power through a powered USB hub. A couple that spring to mind are the Apogee One and the new Roland Duo Capture Ex (takes batteries so no hub needed!) but I don't think this one is out yet..

I still haven't bought an interface for my iPad. I'm getting vocals in by using an iRig Pre and a Rode NT3 mic. I get a great quality recording using this and it only cost me 20 quid (already had the mic)

I reckon there'll be more ipad interfaces coming soon.. NAMM maybe?

How can we tell if they are "class compliant"? I was hoping to get one with midi as well though the camera connector if need be.

Thank you for the info.

The Roland one has midi too. I think that class compliant just means that it doesn't need drivers. This info will be available in the spec of the interface

I'll look into the options.

Is anybody using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4? If so, do you need a usb hub to power it? I'm assuming you do.

How is all the audio and midi implementation working?

Thank you,
Shawn

You defintely do, I try plugging it into my ipad with CCK and needs more power.

However, can you use irig as an audio interface for intua beatmaker?

But the Focusrite 2i4 does actually work when using the CCK with the powered usb, right? I've tried IRig and it didn't really do it for me. I'm trying to get to a really good 24k input and crisp up my recordings.

I have tried just about everything out to date. The CCK approach is what I'm going with next if it all works out.

Thank you,

Haven't got a powered usb hub but it definitely should work though.

RME Babyface is now class compliant for the iPAD and also has a new stand alone mode as a preamp...

One of the best small ADs available, low latency, rock solid drivers and ADAT in out.

Cool

Thank you.

RME Babyface looks amazing but it is over $700!

I think one of the perfect interfaces for iPad is Akai EIE (get the original version, it is class compliant, not the pro). You get 4 in/4 out, plus MIDI in/out, and it also has a USB hub for any other devices that you want to plug in. Perfect for iPad!

I've also had good success with Tascam US-800, which can be found on sale occasionally for around $99 and have 8 in/6 out and MIDI I/O.

Does that tascam need a USB hub, and will it work with an ipad4 do you know?

It doesn't need a USB hub, but it has it's own power brick that needs to be plugged in separately.

It should work with iPad 4, but I have only personally tested it with iPad 3. I plan on buying the USB adapter for iPad 4 soon and I will let you know.
