Hey all.

Great news - the sfz2.0 engine that Plogue has been providing to support a variety of commercial sampler products (e.g. the Garritan libraries) has been released as a standalone player!

http://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando/

I've been using it for a little while and it seems rock solid (as you'd expect, it's a mature product) and runs the large drum sample library mappings I'm working on really well. This is a player I'm happy to say does René's ideas proud.

Not only that, they're throwing in a free sample bank too - I can't comment on them as I've not listened to them.

I need to thank you Peter,
Cause your unofficial SFZ page was of great help when I started this whole engine!

Feels like x-mas today really.

So many great freebies! :tu:

The free pack contains many excellent sounds, and the graphical control surface makes it feel like scripted Kontakt stuff!

Only thing I'm missing straight out of the box, is the ability to stack sounds

Thanks!

You can instantiate a bunch of sforzando's in your host, or stack sounds using the Garritan ARIA Player (multitimbral - 16 slots) which you get with the purchase of any recent Garritan Library.

Cheers

Of course David's right if you're talking about stacking patches. This player's like the original RGCAudio sfz plugin - only loads a single mapping (patch) at a time. That is actually very, very flexible given the nature of the SFZ format, of course! (The drum kit mappings I'm working on are multi-mic with separate mic levels plus gating on the room mic and switchable kit pieces and may also have separate drum levels -- all in the one slot!) And you can run multiple copies - it's a pretty light plugin itself and I believe copies share a sample pool?

Thanks for the info. But I can also open two or more instance of Sforzando and play them at once inside my DAW.

Another cool thing is that Sforzando got an option for importing external libraries, so in addition to the free sound library it imported all my Cakewalk Dimension sounds for easy access in Sforzando :)

yes of course.

Awesome, but I do agree with Numanoid. It would be great if it were 16-part multitimbral :)

Now this is great! Thank you! :D

I've liked using TX16W for SFZ, but its been too buggy, so I've gone back to plain vanilla SFZ. I'll have to try this out. Can't wait! :)

I can't get sound out of standalone x64 using WASAPI... I select the system sample rate (48k), but upon a restart it throws an error that it's an unsupported samplerate, after which I see an empty samplerate dropdown in the options. And then it crashes.

Some wasapi drivers really hate our build of portaudio. Which audio device is that?
I guess you'll have to switch to ASIO for the time being.

Thanks

Toshiba laptop, Realtek HD inside.

A4A hates Realtek on this one, I don't get active output if any other application is running. Or at all. :/

Thanks for the info. Yeah if A4A hates it, chances are we do as well haha. But lots of RealtekHDs work fine, including the one on my Bootcamped i5 iMac, where i run it WASAPI'ed under x64 and 48KHz.

A Linux port would be awesome, because it can read sfz files better than LinuxSampler, even with Wine. Standalone works flawlessly, except the sf2 converter that crashes. Thanks a lot for this program, simple and efficient.
You can't always get what you waaaant...
