OMG!! I just heard about Melda Productions from another thread and watched their intro and DynamicEQ youtube vids and was BLOWN AWAY!! Seems like an amazing piece of software!!

Now I'll for sure demo it after Christmas, but in the meantime I'd love to get some opinions from others. Is this EQ as cool and powerful as it seems? I must admit even though I own a bunch of EQ's (UAD, PSP, etc) but I still turn to Logic's EQ often due to its ease of use and built in analyzer, at least to start. This plugin seems like Logic's EQ on steroids!!!

Do you find yourself using this plugin often, or do you go for more color EQ's instead and/or multiband compressors instead? In your opinion, is it worth the extra money to go with the MAutoDynamicEq if you already have match EQ? (correct me if I'm wrong but this is the major difference between the two versions, right?)

Thanks in advance for any opinions you can share on this product. I cant believe I never heard of MeldaProductions before!

There are 2 more bands on the MAutoDynamicEQ or something like that. I don't use the Auto section, it was fun to try out but couldn't get it to go, if I was going to use matching across a whole mix I'd do it with Ozone5. Matching a track might be a different question I can't say how that works/sounds.

Melda Dynamic EQs are fine that's for sure. The workflow is nice and it's easy to select the amount of stereo linking per dynamic filter fast. There are nice filter shapes that can have steep slopes upto 96db/octave or something like that. It takes a minute to get all the features happening. I haven't touched the modulation stuff - that's a while other world.

There's some pretty good documentation/tutorials on the DynamicEq plugs. Some Melda plugs have more info/tutorials than others.

I demoed it for 2 weeks as I wanted something to substitue my dynamic Sonalksis Plugs, then I got the bigger version MAutoDynEQ in the current Christmas sale as I love the possibility to use LFOs for Filtersweeps, especially with the octave mode activated. The Sonogram is brilliant, it sounds good and the dynamic response is very accurate - both versions are really good Plug-Ins.

I have this plugin, and although I don't use it often when I do it's because I have nothing else in my toolkit that does what it does. It's a lifesaver on vocals that weren't recorded in the best-sounding space and have nasty resonances as a result.

Good point - I use it to de-ess (Highs) and de-pop (bass) switching with Waves C6 as the aural mood stikes.

I have other eqs as well like the uad stuff, but this was a love at first sight eq and it is definitely my go to eq now. The Sonogram is on of the most awesome features to find resonances and just general energy in a track. The dynamics are very configurable and the ducking. I only turn to other eq for special sweetening. I could probably do that with this one too but I have not found the best curves to make that happen.

I have the MDynamicEQ; since I wasn't in need for "auto" functions, and with 5+2 LP/HP filters compared to 7+2 you're pretty much sorted with a dynamic EQ as well.

One thing is for certain - you HAVE TO listen and actually learn this plugin. Else it won't do you any good. I barely use this EQ, only for special cases where other means do not work anymore. It certainly is not my main go-to plugin, just an additional lifesaver.

There are more alternatives out that are just as easy to understand. HOFA being one, but MeldaProduction is still more versatile IMO.

I don't have this one. I just have the creative and free packs, but all the Melda stuff I have is top notch. I just rarely find dynamic eq or its cousin multi band dynamics are needed. Too powerful medicine, like chemo when discreet surgery is needed. I recognize, that is largely a subjective opinion/workflow issue tho.

Ok, so I'm comparing the free EQ vs this DynamicEQ, and correct me if I'm wrong, but the only difference I can tell between an unlocked MEqualizer and the MDynamicEQ is the ability to apply dynamics (i.e. compression & expansion) to the bands, right? Now, given that an actual multi-band compressor can do a similar function, do you find this feature even useful in an EQ? Its kind of odd to me that you can unlock all the pro versions for half the cost of the dynamic EQ alone?

Still got to do more tests, but I'm wondering for those of you who own it, do you find yourself actually using the dynamic options enough to justify the purchase? If so, in what situations do you find it the most useful?

A multi band compressor is mostly only compressing a certain band, that means no "peak" or "shelf" filter as needed. A dynamic EQ is on a whole different ballpark. You can setup certain frequency bands (with a bell or notch filter) and let it either trigger or enhance according to incoming signal, or sidechained signal.

It's a drastically enhanced multiband compressor so to say, only that you should not get any distortion effects and rather mess with the frequency rather than the loudness of a signal.

Such EQ's can be used to enhance certain sounds that are else hard to get. Like a Snare "oomph", which can't be recreated with a normal compressor. But Dynamic EQ's are also excellent for Deessing, and more flexible as well.

I only use the EQ if there is really a place in the recording, where I can't fix the sound through other means - read: compression and regular EQ. This is a rare occasion however. I mostly use this EQ for deessing and maybe sidechain triggering of kick compared to bass. With an emphasis on "maybe".

I have to admit, I got this plugin in the initial sale and barely used it since then. Like I earlier said - it's not my main usage EQ, just for special occasions.

You might like to dig around for the threads by IIRs (Dan Worrall) where he talked about his dynamic EQ, or the launch thread of MDynamicEQ, where Dan made tons of interesting comments as to how and why to use such an EQ.

Or go over to the tubes, and watch the IQ-EQ videos by HOFA, which pretty much sum up what I just wrote in video form.

Has anyone made or care to make something like this available in the areas section of this plugin. I'd like to see other peoples take on positives across the frequency domain as well as negatives as linked above.
