I am wondering what the resolution does to the experience of certain apps so I can make a better to decision which one to buy.

Do you get more usable space or does it just "look better"

this might be hard to come by since the mini just came out but i thought it would be worth a shot

The difference is usually things bigger.
I am not aware of an app that simply changes the UI on the iPad Mini.
That is, iPad apps are all the same, they just downscale (so to speak) on the Mini.

It's not like iPhone/iTouch vs iPad, where you really get "more space" and the UI is different (well, for non lazy developers).

I guess your best bet, if you don't have friends around that "make music" with an iPad Mini, is to watch the few youtube videos for the Mini and see for yourself, virtually, the difference with the iPad via other videos.
I say few because I don't imagine there is a whole bunch of people posting synth-apps videos on youtube, with the Mini (could be wrong tho').
What better religion than music itself?

I think a bigger consideration now is the processor, of which the 4th gen iPad is far faster than the Mini. With stuff like Audiobus, that's going to be a significant factor going forward.

If it were me, I'd wait for the A6 in the Mini before doing it.

I'm on a mini.
Stuff is just as big i think, proportional to screen size. So if the added pretty isnt a factor for you, and you're ok with the weaker cpu, all that remains is the screen size.

For example: Tabletop is no problem as it really isn't that crammed when you're zoomed in on an instrument.
I passed on Rebirth though. Looking at the lifesize screenshots in the shop, it seemed like it would be very fiddly business on a mini.

The mini is a compromise for fans of hand-held. I love it for that.

does cpu ever become an issue with tabletop on the mini? I think it would be on Beatmaker 2 or Auria

Tabletop isn't that demanding. Maybe you can strain the cpu by automating everything at once. Cpu usually sits at 30-40% with fuller tables.
If you want to use a lot of channels and fx in DAWs, you'll run into issues faster, of course.
I think the bigger question is how extensively you want to use audiobus. With daws, you still can bounce tracks, but with audiobus, you either have enough cpu to use the apps you want, or you don't.
