Lightning connector and active USB hubs

So i got the Apple camera connection thing to connect my mpk mini to the ipad mini.
Works great, but the added power drain is rather huge.
I'm not aware of any 3rd party active hubs that are out yet. Going backwards with a 30 pin adapter seems stupid.
What about an active USB hub that goes into the CCK via male USB? Shouldn't that work out alright?

Sorry, I might be running out of neurons over here.
What are you asking exactly?
Why would the old "Device ==> Powered HUB ==> CCK ==> 30-Pin'd-Ipad" wouldn't work now as in "Device ==> Powered HUB ==> New Lighting Camera Adaptor ==> iPad Mini" ???

That's exactly what i was thinking. The guy tending apple products in the store i went to today answered with a resounding no.Storms wrote:Wouldn't any standard powered USB hub work if you already have the USB camera connector? I don't think there is any need for a 30 pin adapter.
I basically need confirmation that what you and i describe works, that the power flow goes from the hub through the standard new CCK to the ipad, and everything works like a charm!

That's why you should never, under any circumstance, trust some salesman's words. You are fine however trusting complete strangers on the internetnasenmann wrote:The guy tending apple products in the store i went to today answered with a resounding no.

Yes, it does.
People have reported that, if previously it worked USB-HUB-powered in conjunction with the old CCK, it works with the new "Lighting Camera USB Adaptor Thingy" as well.

Cool! Thanks.
I hope this will really work with any hub i buy.
You know...as if apple stuff wasn't proprietary enough, but the salesmen make it seem even more proprietary than it really is.
I never can say if it's ignorance or agenda or a mix.

Well, just so you know, I've got this Hub, which is one of the recommended hubs for this task (some KVR members and other people around the internet). It's this exact white model and all.
Of course, YMMV.

So here's the deal: i got the 4-port powered mobile hub from belkin. I'm guessing it's the successor of the model you linked to. Was 17 euros.
The akai is getting power, midi works.
Maybe i misunderstood what you were saying, but i was under the impression that the hub would power my ipad as well. It doesn't.
Is the usb port you connect the ipad (or normally the computer) to actually active?

I use the lightning camera connection kit with my iPad to connect my Korg MS20 controller via a powered hub. It powers the controller but doesn't charge the iPad. I'd assumed that was a limitation of the camera connection (?). Usually when connecting the iPad directly to any powered usb other than the supplied charger, such as a PC, it reports "not charging", even though it is at a very low rate (sort of trickle charging) but via the camera connection, it doesn't even show that.
I don't know if things were different with the older models. It's not really an issue for me, but if I were hoping to use it live or extensively for music, I imagine it could be a concern.

That helps.
The hub does power the mpk now, so it's less of a concern, but yeah, i was hoping to record all night without thinking about battery status once.
Maybe a 3rd party USB hub with lightning and active power is going to make it possible.
