How do I use the M-Audio Venom as a MIDI keyboard for VSTs?

Hi guys,
I have an M-Audio Venom VA synth and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 audio interface and am having loads of trouble trying to get the synth to work in Cubase AI5 to use VSTs.
I've dabbled in the audio side of Cubase (recording guitars, vox, etc.) but have never tried my luck at the MIDI side - I've clearly failed already.
I've downloaded some free VSTs (like Synth1 and LazySnake) that I want to be able to play on the Venom but have no idea of:
a) How to connect the synth to my interface (the Scarlett does have have MIDI in and out, so I know it's possible - I also have two MIDI cables)
AND
b) How to set up the Venom in Cubase itself (i.e. how to configure the MIDI ports and VST instruments)
I'm sorry I'm such a newbie, I just really want to try and get it to work!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Katie

You should just plug the Venom into your pc via usb. Dont connect it to the audio interface.Dont use cubase but you should be able to select the Venom as the midi in device/controller. No midi cables needed.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not quite sure what you mean though when you say I don't need Cubase. I want to record the Venom in Cubase using Cubase's VSTs! Sorry if I'm being ignorant or stupidKriminal wrote:You should just plug the Venom into your pc via usb. I use Venom as my midi controller for Cubase 7
Use the USB cable provided, connect it to your PC, install all the latest drivers and shit...
Buy 2 x Mono Guitar Leads, plug them into your Venom L/R out and into your Audio interface ins.
Then you need to (in Cubase)
Devices(Top of Screen) > Device Setup > Midi Port Setup >
Direct Music Venom Midi In [ ] Inactive
Direct Music Venom Synth In [X] Active
Windows Midi Venom Midi In [ ] Inactive
Windows Midi Venom synth In [ ] Inactive(if using Mkdr VenomEd VST) or [X] Active(if not using VenomEd VST)
If using VenomEd VST use midi ports 'Venom Synth In/Out'(on the vst) for the VST to connect
If using Cubase(no editor) choose All midi inputs/Venom Synth Out on a newly opened midi channel.

The midi keyboard drivers can be finicky sometimes. I had to install the legacy m-audio driver for my midiman keyboard twice but I've happy used it on WinXP and Win Vista since. I think it has to install some drivers first and then after that you plug in the keyboard.
